The back and forward buttons on the Firefox toolbar are grayed out and will not work. I have tried restarting Firefox, restarting the computer, upgrading to the current Firefox version, changing toolbar/navigation bar settings, restoring defaults, disabling add-ons and extensions, and a number of other suggested fixes I found on the message boards, all without success. Any suggestions? I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.13. Thanks.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
