Those appear to simply be cache files.
The cache is basically just a collection of files that Firefox saves to boost performance. For example, when you load a website, Firefox will save that in the cache so that it can simply open that file again later instead of redownloading the page again (which takes longer).
When you use Private Browsing mode, Firefox doesn't save your websites in the cache, but it still caches some other stuff that helps performance. In fact, as soon as you open Firefox, you will likely get this cache folder filled with files before you even browse a website.
They are just left over junk files.
For example, looking at my cache (which you can do simply by opening the cache file in a Microsoft Notepad) shows a lot of application/ocsp-response files, which are simply for managing certain security certificates. Most of the files actually seem to be related to the Firefox Tiles Service, but it may vary on your system. Certain extensions and plugins installed on Firefox may create some cache files too.
For example "JUNK IS JUNK" and shouldn't be left behind with "private brower." Why should I have to clean up after Firefox to release the disk space?
Do these items show on the about:cache page?
In Private Browsing mode there shouldn't be cache entries about web pages you visited, but I don't know if Firefox can store other internal data in the disk cache location. Note that removing items in the entries folder without updating the index file(s) in the cache2 folder cane lead to corruption.
