Why does Firefox have to have a mute on the tab? I've found this feature to be endlessly frustrating when this feature mutes listening to music or watching vids

When I click on a different tab to look at other things then go back to the tab where I was listening to something I often find that the tab mutes without my being aware of it until after minute examination reveals the issue. At one time I thought this issue was somewhere in windows. I now see this is a firefox issue, and there needs to be a means of disabling this feature altogether. I've found it to be more problem than not. Does anyone have a permanent solution to this issue?

You can disable the mute button on all tabs quite easily. Just do the following:

  1. Type about:config in your Firefox address bar
  2. Bypass the security warning
  3. Find browser.tabs.showAudioPlayingIcon
  4. Double-click it to change the value to false
  5. Restart Firefox

Then the mute button will be disabled. If you ever change your mind and want the feature back, just follow the steps again and change the value back to true.
