always happens, tried starting firefox (x64) in safemode and still it jumps to the bottom, and then scrolls up just a tad. Its happened a few other places, which I didn't take time to notate and don't have URL's for.

I did also try taking off the #.WIYe... whatever at the end of the URL as if it was supposed to be a bookmark(?) but going to the URL without it, puts it right back.

Saying bookmark and noting its a JSP makes me suspicious its some java foofoo that's causing this or some hijack but if that's the case (hijack) why only some JSP pages?

Screenshot attached, note the visible scroll bar on the right side .. it went all the way to the bottom, and then either it jumped back up a tad, or the browser had hit the bottom, and then some other content came in that was at the new "bottom" of the page relative to time of data coming in.

Total load time was less than 2 seconds.

Note: allowed the TS info field & OS info, let me know if it doesn't appear for you. (both nice ways to auto-get system info stuff that testers/helpers need)

I tried your link, but the page stayed at the top.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies
    Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via *"3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)

  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit
  • If you have many extensions then first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem.
  • Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing the problem.

You may have switched on caret browsing.

You can toggle caret browsing on/off by pressing F7 (Mac: fn + F7).

  • Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

Note that this is an accessibility feature of Firefox.

Sorry @cor-el, I know you're trying to be helpful but:

"always happens, tried starting firefox (x64) in safemode and still it..."

So I've already tried safemode ... just as topic says: "even when all add-ons disabled"

==

Caret browsing is set FALSE in about:config (double checked as I hate caret mode)

@FredMcD is this still valid for backing up cache, cookies, history? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/982636

OR .. if I launch safemode, disconnect SYNC then clear.. and then re-attach my sync account, would that re-import my stuff .. or would the removal of cache/cookie/etc get replicated into SYNC and then I loose everything?  :(

Thanks guys!

Having a specific file extension usually means that there is special server-side code present in the origianal page code that is processed on the server before the resulting code is send to you and is no need to worry about.

Try to use the URL without the anchor in case that is causing the problem. Such an anchor can be processed by JavaScript, but can cause issues in some cases.

substitute the word "anchor" for "whatever" in that paragraph, I was lazy and didn't put the full 'anchor' in text.

Tried it all.

Started in safemode, confirmed hardware acceleration is off, signed out of sync, changed privacy / history settings, cleared all history .. checked "show cookies" to confirm and remove all ... shut down, restarted firefox (again in safemode), checked cookies first, saw google had already landed (my default start page) and then went to the site anew, and still it did the exact same thing.

I rechecked cookies, saw a couple had shown up for the site, deleted all, restarted firefox (in safemode) again confirmed no cookies (again google was already there) and went to the URL without the 'anchor' and still had the same result.

Firefox starts loading the page ... about a second or so in, the text appears, firefox jumps to the bottom and within the next second or so, the scroll bar "moves back up" a little, and the page footer shows up.

So, changed all, deleted all, and same problem  :(

Add to this .. I've just tested under OSx and the problem does not occur there with all my add-ons loaded.

could this be a problem with Java? and FF's interaction with it? On Windows 10...

You can use that method, but I much prefer doing this;

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.
