Had problems opening Hotmail. Said there was an error 0x801901f4. In trying to solve this I got a utilities fixer that didn't work. In fact each time after running it when I tried to open firefox, it immediately crashed. So I tried uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it. Even though I ensured English was the page language I got a lot of symbals as though it was displaying infl in anouther language. There was enough to tell me to save than run download. However when finished, there was no icon on the tray for opening firefox. There was something on the desktop but when I clicked on it, it said it was no longer a valid shortcut.

You may need to further disinfect your system.

Please try several of the cleaning programs listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. Those are free and take considerable time to run. If they seem to finish very quickly and especially if they demand a payment to continue, your infection may require more indepth support. In that case, please try the forums listed in the article where they can walk you through the use of advanced tools.

And then, could you get your Firefox installer from the following page (scroll down to your preferred language):

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Choose the regular Windows version (not Windows 64-bit) if you need Java, Google Talk, VLC or any other plugins other than Flash and Silverlight.

If Mozilla Firefox is in your Start Menu list of Programs, right click on it. Then, probably, click on More and click on pin to Task Bar.
