The pop out feature stopped working in my AOL webmail. It worked fine using Firefox for years and still works great on all my other browsers.

I use AOL's webmail for my business and personal email accounts. It has worked great with the Firefox browser for years, until this week. Now, AOL's pop out feature still works in terms of creating a new "pop out" window for an email, but the content/body of the email disappears in the pop out window almost instantly. If I change preferences to always read in or respond in a new window, the emails pop out and work fine. But the pop out feature used to work even when I hadn't checked either of those preferences and that's how I prefer to work. I don't want every email to pop out into a separate, new screen - just those I choose to pop out.

Hope that makes sense.

The pop out feature in AOL's webmail still works perfectly using Chrome and Safari (i.e., just like it used to work on Firefox). I don't think I changed anything that would have caused this problem on Firefox.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as Firefox is my favorite browser!

Thanks in advance.

Firefox 42+ has a Tracking Protection feature that is enabled by default in Private Browsing mode. When you are in private browsing mode then Firefox can show a shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar that some content is affected.

You can disable this feature in "Options/Preferences > Privacy" or via the about:privatebrowsing page that get when you open a New Private Window.

  • Options/Preferences > Privacy: "Use Tracking Protection in Private Windows"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check the log in the Web Console for error messages and the Network Monitor (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) to see if content fails to load or is possibly blocked.

Use Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

Thanks for your response but it's way beyond my ability to comprehend or implement. Would you mind breaking it down for someone who's not tech savvy. (I don't think the Privacy Mode portion of your response is applicable b/c I never use it.)

Thanks again.
