Windows 7, Firefox 45.0.2

Has never done it before the latest upgrade. No add-ons have changed. Some sites seem unaffected. Dictionary.com and thesaurus.com are the two sites I first noticed it on. I use these all the time, and need multiple pages open for comparing words.

My mouse is not broken, dirty, or otherwise impaired. In about:config, I have set dom.event.contextmenu.enabled to false, and it still skips the menu to load the #@*& link in the same tab.

All (useful) help is appreciated.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Did you try to middle-click the links with the mouse scroll wheel?

It is possible that some JavaScript event handler is attached to the link that overrides the right-click context menu.

These sites are a bit odd in their design. In many places, they do not use real links and instead intercept various mouse actions using scripts. (Screen shot example attached.)

I noticed the right-click directly triggering navigation for the Word of the Day link. That's a real link, but also has a script intercept governing its behavior. Does that affect other links -- could you point to some examples?

I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to make these sites behave more normally. They've gone to considerable lengths to make them act that way.

To Cor-el: Thanks for the options. Tried the above (even the middle roller button), but to no avail.

To jscher2000: I have seen it on several other pages, but since I don't use them regularly, I can't remember or duplicate. Sorry.

I am guessing that you are both correct, then, that it is written in the site that way. Now, to find an add-on to disable it...

Thanks for the attempts!

BTW: I have found a work-around. The add-on RighttoClick works. All I have to do is set advanced options "Always run on these hosts" and input the proper base URL.

Not the IDEAL option, but at least it works, for any who also find the need. Now, I can use the problem websites like any other, and continue my automatic response to right-click in order to open in a new window. :)
