How do I STOP Firefox disabling FLASH just because it needs an update.

I saw the answer below but not only is it Chinese to me (written by some nerdy tech who assumes we all know what he knows), it is overkill.

I have Firefox set to NOT update because everytime it updates it screws up my PC and ruins my productivity, I prefer to update when I choose. I may decide to stick with a stable version or I may wait till a Sunday to update after I have checked that the update does not use 4 terabytes of ram etc.

So why does Firefox NOT respect these wishes for Flash, it completely RUINS my browsing experience by hassling me on every site. Don't get me wrong I HATE FLASH, it is buggy, insecure and uses sitloads of memory, but people use on their websites so I am stuck with it until they wise up.

What I am after is a setting I can use JUST FOR FLASH so that this STUPID crippling of Firefox does not give me this STUPID warning.

Please only post a reply if you have a proper solution that resolves my problem, I am not interested in the goody goody sycophants who want to tell me what I SHOULD be doing. I know those guys only post so they can get their pathetic post count up because they lead such sad lives, this is their metric (hint, go out and do some volunteering in the real world).

If your solution is technical, please post STEP by STEP instructions.

Also, does anyone know of a decent fork of Firefox that supports plugins, does not leak or hog memory?

"Please do NOT tell me to disable the add-ons blocklist in Firefox and delete the existing blocklist.xml file in the Profile folder.

Disable these prefs. extensions.blocklist.enabled = change that pref to false extensions.blocklist.url = delete the url so Firefox can't find the server where that file is sent from"

hi, this is not the case - firefox will only block old versions of flash if they contain serious vulnerabilities that allow attackers (=any website you visit or legitimate sites that have embedded code from such a third-party) to take over your whole system and such attacks are reported to happen in the wild. you can download a secure version of flash from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html (for firefox use the exe-installer for plugin-based browsers)

there is no other way to activate exploitable versions of flash per default on all pages than the information you've already cited at the end of your post.

Amazing Forum, I went and posted the same damn error that was never answered in a way that I could understand.

Let me try again:

I really wonder sometimes who does the user acceptance testing on Firefox?

Did they REALLY imagine that users wanted to be nagged to within an inch of their life just because a new version if Flash was out and they had not upgraded/

Did they think that the users would want to lose two lines of screen estate and be FORCED to press 6 buttons just to make the damn think go away, ONLY to have it all start again as they click on the next page of the site they were visiting.

If a Human nagged me this much it would be ABUSE and I would probably deck them!

So PLEASE how do I make this GO AWAY FOREVER, I do not want this awful abuse.

Please do try to justify this, I am NOT interested.

I am not an amateur, I have been around PC's since before the original IBM PC and have forgotten more than most people know about this stuff in a lifetime.

Do NOT tell me how important it is or to just upgrade, that is not my question.

I want this abuse stopped forever, I am sure there is a setting somewhere, please reveal it.

@philipp

In response to your previous reply, it does not matter how many badges or sumo's or posts you have, you are not meeting the needs of your customer.

I am not cattle to be herded, I want to disable this, that is my question.

I am fine with the risks, they are mine to take.

Now if you can please tell me how I can disable this I would be grateful.

You can shut the thread and think you close me down but I will just ask the question on other forums and that makes you and this forum look bad.

There is a way to tell people stuff and this nagging is over the top.

and the point about poor software design was valid, because we use firefox to do jobs and important stuff. We may have deadlines and other things we NEED to get done before we take the advice to upgrade.

I use Flashblock because I hate Flash and the fact that it is insecure just exacerbates matters,

I do not mind a notification, perhaps at every reboot or restart but this nagging IS abusive.

I found this on another site, can you please confirm it will work

If you want, you can disable the blocklist using about:config:

extensions.blocklist.enabled false

or using prefs.js:

user_pref('extensions.blocklist.enabled', false);

   blocklist.xml
   prefs.js

yes this would work, but since you've already mentioned this in your first post i thought you were already aware of that preference...

Wow it worked

Entering About.config and putting in

extensions.blocklist

Showed a whole load of options

There was an INTERVAL set to 86400

an ITEMURL which has a URL to Mozilla

a LEVEL which it would have been very useful to document for users so they perhaps might be able to get the software to work the way they want.

a PINGCOUNTTOTAL which I imagine is how often it has checked since forever (862)

a PINGCOUNTVERSION which I am guessing is how many checks since this version (14)

and a BLOCKLISTURL which again has a Mozilla URL

Now I do not want to have to disable this, it is using a sledgehammer to crack a nut (albeit a very abusive nut) but perhaps the Dev minions can now design a few new settings.

Perhaps a setting for enabling certain sites we trust

Perhaps a setting for how persistant the nagging is

Perhaps a setting for a Offer to suspend to next FF Session

See, if we treat people as customers we get to improve software for all of the community.

Older versions that are on blocklist (soft blocked, click to play) are because of Critical vulnerabilities according to Adobe.

They are Not on blocklist simply because it is a previous update version from Adobe.

Unfortunately most of the Flash Player versions from Adobe ever since December 11 2014 have been getting hit with proven in wild critical exploits.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/blocked/ https://helpx.adobe.com/security.html#flashplayer

Before December 2014 the security concerns with each Flash Player version were minor enough to not warrant adding any versions to blocklist ever since the additions to list in January/February 2013. As a result when Flash Player versions were added to list in December we had people who were still using Flash player versions that was almost two years old wondering why they had to do click to play.

Mozilla only adds versions of Extensions and Plugins to list when they are of Serious security, stability, performance or malware concerns. . .

Neither of us are Mozilla employees.

And you paid how much for Firefox? as you are a user and not a customer that payed for it ;)
