Make sure to download the Mac version in your language from here. Sometimes the website will not correctly auto-detect your operating system, so it may have given you the Windows version of the installer.

That must have been the problem. I got a notification that the apple browser was no longer supported and was given a link to Firefox that worked perfectly.
