Your best bet is to try all likley passswors & maybe potential typos. AFAIK the encryption is secure enough not to be cracked without massive resources.

You may reset the password but will permenantly lose any record of the previously stored passwords.

One thing you could do is preserve the related files or better and simpler backup the whole profile. You may then start again with no passwords but retain the old profile whilst you go through all the possibilities you can think of.

I tried to set up the master password and something went wrong with what I was doing? I now can't get in with the password I used and need to clear this out.

I am not sure what is meant by backup and restore Firefox profiles because I'm so new to Firefox. I also have not used the master password at all so none of my websites or files have been effected.

I am wondering if I could do a restore point and get things straight?  I do know how to do that.

Make sure to use only basic ASCII characters (a-z and 0-9) and symbols and avoid using accented or other Unicode characters. If you did use such special characters then try to change the master password in the Password Manager.

You lose all stored passwords if you use the chrome URI or delete the key3.db and logins.json files to reset the Master Password.

If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete the key3.db and logins.json files in the Firefox profile folder.
