Firefox 3.6.8 crashes when accessing Add-on Manager and Google Toolbar (v 7.1.20100723W) is enabled

Running Firefox 3.6.8 on a Win7 64x HP dv7 notebook

Receive the following “Warning: Unresponsive Script” box when accessing Add-ons Manager...

Contents of box:

“A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623”

The warning box cycles on repeatedly (Don't ask check box/Continue/Stop Script has no effect)…have to kill Firefox through “end process” in Windows Task Manager

Method:

Open Firefox in SafeMode…disabled all add-ons…accessed Add-on Manager with no issues

restarted firefox in normal mode twice to ensure normal mode is active… accessed Add-on Manager with no issues

enable add-ons one at a time and restarted twice for each add-on and accessed Add-on Manager with no issues

enabled Google tool bar and restarted … accessed Add-on Manager and the browser failed with the above script error…killed firefox through task manager…

restarted firefox… accessed Add-on Manager and the browser failed with the above script error…killed firefox through task manager

restarted Firefox in safe mode…disabled Google toolbar…

restarted Firefox in normal mode twice…accessed Add-on Manager with no issues

uninstalling/ reinstalling does not work…same issue

The latest Windows 7 updated that installed last night is the cause of this problem. :/

Not unheard of, to be honest.

For support on any given add-on, you need to contact its author directly. So if you need support with Google's toolbar, you need to contact Google.

Also, may I suggest that you simply use Firefox inbuilt search bar for searches on Google or other search engines? You can easily add engines of your choice by going to the page of the engine, clicking the icon of the engine in Firefox's search bar, and select Add "Engine", where "engine" is the name of the engine.

I found a solution here : http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/749314

I had to uninstall personas 1.6 in safe-mode.

Now it's all right.

Morbus, sorry but the problem comes from an update of Personas, not a problem from google toolbar.

more options

Oh, then it's probably a problem with the Personas add-on. Unfortunately, I can't provide assistance on that, since I don't use the add-on and have no experience with it. Hopefully someone will know something about it, about what's happening.

Same issue with Snow Leopard (10.6.4). Uninstalled Personas 1.6, and Google Toolbar works fine.

thanks for the tip on the problem with the latest update to Personas (1.6) I uninstalled Personas and thinks are back to normal for me. It maybe just my perception, but FF feels snappier now.

Well, i have the same problem but on Firefox mac. Could anyone help me?

Okay, this is a great way to do it. First start up Firefox in Safe Mode. On a windows, press alt when Firefox starts. On a Mac, press and hold alt and command while the Firefox icon bounces. Then, click on continue with safe mode. Go to the addons thingy, and don't disable Personas, UNINSTALL IT. Because then it takes the problem off completely. There you go. The problem is solved on Windows and Mac.
