Android Firefox crashes on tab switch

Android 8.1, Firefox 67 (also 66.0.4 and 66.0.5).

Often, for no discernable reason, tapping on the "tab switch" icon causes the icon to highlight but does not raise the tab switch screen. Tapping elsewhere after this occurs results in a sort of crash, with a black screen.

While in that state, tapping near where the address bar should be sometimes restores the screen, but with the "X" and three-dots menu icons superimposed on each other, and after this the browser is essentially unusable until it is closed and reopened -- the main window scrolls and things can be tapped on, but the address bar and its controls are unresponsive.

Tried purging cache & app data, no effect.
