A while ago, I had to work offline so I had TB download my Gmail account messages. Now I no longer want these messages to be stored locally, because the Thunderbird folder is up to 10Gb, so I unchecked the box in Synchronization for 'Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer'. I was hoping the TB would subsequently purge the offline folders, but apparently not. Is there a way to clean out the folders without affecting my online Gmail folders as in Inbox and Sent folders?

I have been using three email accounts on Thunderbird, all for a long period of time, and all without any issue. Recently the one listed below has not been backing up, and I receive this message. I am not techie at all, so any response needs to be dummy down to a 5th grader level. Thanks!

Hello and thank you for your help, I am trying to find my old Mozilla Thunderbird, e-mail account my older computer does not work, anymore, I have not used my Thunderbird, e-mail account in over five years, because I am on a newer computer. And could not access my information on the older computer that does not work. I could really use all my information and EMAIL account for Thunderbird, because I have many years of information on all those emails, I can’t find my password, 0r email address for Thunderbird emails, because I have not used my Thunderbird account in over 5 years. My old computer does not work and Thunderbird Email is a great program. How could I get my old emails back? And working. If you could please give me more or less a time, and date, to wait for your response, so I can wait for someone to help me, and not lose that opportunity. It would be much appreciated, so I don’t miss contact with someone that can help me with this matter. I am in the East coast. And thank you for any concern in this matter please help.

Hi, I have used Thunderbird for many years and always liked it. I would like to know is there a way to tone down the brightness of the white message pane in email ?? It is very bright and glaring. Any white anywhere else I go is just fine. Thank You,, Banyarola

Here in Jan 2024 suddenly TB will no longer connect to any hotmail or outlook..it says I have to enter a new password but I have not changed my password and can get onto them if I go directly to that site. Any suggestions?

How can I set the email message sort to descending date for all folders in all accounts? With many accounts with many folders each, manually changing the sort from ascending to descending is a lot of needless work. A global default is needed, and if there is one, I can't find it.

I am running Thunderbird on WIndows 10. I have eight different email accounts, but only one profile.

This morning on startup, all accounts and folders were gone and the "open your account" tab was open.

After several hours of frantic searching on the net, I took the most recent profile "prefs-9" and used it to overwrite "prefs.js" This brought back all my local folders and saved emails.

However, the email accounts used to be Wotsit@gmail followed by Inbox, Sent, Draft etc. Now the first account name has been moved, leaving behind its old Inbox, Sent etc with the correct email count but nothing at all in the right hand pane. The account header has re-appeared amongst other account headers but with nothing in the Inbox, Sent etc.

What I need to do is make all the emails visible in the "headerless" section, and return the correct header above them.

Here is what it sort of looks like -

Inbox (3) 2100 Sent 998 Drafts

Then further down after other accounts - Wotsit@gmail.com Inbox Sent Drafts

How can I move the Wotsit header back to where it should be?

I normally open messages in tabs under exactly one circumstance: when I right-click on a message and explicitly open it in a tab.

I've found that (until I changed the handling of PDFs to "Save file") any PDFs that opened using Thunderbird's preview function would reopen if I closed and relaunched Thunderbird. This is not desired behavior.

I will also note that if I open Settings, it opens in a tab, rather than a separate window. This is neither expected nor desired (and my natural reaction is to click the close button on the window, closing Thunderbird, because "Settings" is something I expect to be in a window, not a tab. And that, too, reopens if I reopen Thunderbird.

And worst of all, those tabs that shouldn't be reopening at all are reopening in front of the main tab.

There was an extension called "Thunderbird-DontRestoreTabs," that would do exactly what I want, but that was made obsolete when the underlying extension technology was deprecated, so it is of no use in 115.9.0.

Is there any way to select other than the "home" calendar as standard? Have tried to change order in the calendar setting, but when I accept a meeting invitation it always place the meeting in the home calendar. I would like to select the syncronized Google calendar.

The syncronization with Google calender works perfect when manual enter something.

I have two computers, one older with TB 115.9.0 32 bit, pop. The other has 115.9.0 64 bit, imap, same email address. I have tried to merge them, but when i do the Thunderbird Import folder has zero messages and no subfolders. I also tried changing the old TB to IMAP, didnt work: "configuration problem". Any help would be appreciated.

I want to export mails only of a certain mail account (I have got 6). I would like not to export ALL accounts in ONE zip file but I want to have different zips. Is that possible? Why do I want that? I am active in 3 different organisations and I have a private account and - it can almost not be avoided - a google mail account. So when I look for a certain mail I know which zip I have to import and to look for it. Years ago I used MS outlook and I had the possibility to create archives as defined for each account and - if necessary and wanted - for each year. Is this also possible in Thunderbird? If yes HOW? I have over 200 emails that I can find in search and can view a preview type showing of emails, I can right click or take any action aside from clicking to open email. But when I try to open email it seem to open a new page that is blank and shows a page just like regular email listing but the field showing emails in blank. This same blank results also happens when I can see emails in search window but click the link to view in list view. I just need to open an email enough to be able to see what email address the original email was sent to. I also will add I cant seem to find any of the emails found in search in any of the accounts that being used in Thunderbird (accounts listed in left side column) Also these emails are 2 years old and the computer may or may not have had a OS reset during that time but not sure.

Problem: Thunderbird hangs up on Macbook and iMac. It opens to the normal view, but if I try to do anything, I get the beachball of death. I used Mac migration assistant to install from Macbook to iMac. Before the installation, the Macbook Thunderbird worked fine, but after the installation, neither worked. My PC installation works fine, as does Apple Mail on my iOS devices, so it is not a provider problem.

Solutions tried: restarting in troubleshoot mode, restarting iMac, turning off access to Apple Contacts, turning off antivirus (Norton), creating new profile and copying existing mail data into the profile folder, and renaming various files in the profile folder.

Results: None of the solutions I tried provided access to my email. I can open the new profile, but that requires that I reenter all my email account information and copy the emails for each account into the new profile (I use POP). The problem may be with the prefs.js file, since if I rename it, Thunderbird doesn't hang, but would require me to reenter all my account info as if it were a new profile, and all preferences would be lost.

Question: What is the best solution for this problem? Is there anything that would work better than reentering the account info -- e.g., can I make any changes to prefs.js using a text editor or some other utility?

Hi, since I use a set of different browsers for different tasks, it would be great if there was an easy way of opening links from within thunderbird emails to your browser of choice. E.g. via right mouse button: Open Link in ... I use that method in other applications frequently.
