Hi here!! I review a lot of mozilla docs (out dated or without complete info), forums, googling ... about how to share firefox/thunderbird/ligthing data between platforms on dual/multiple boot system. Every user in same trouble are repeating (copy/paste) in the solution to share the SAME FULL PROFILE on all platforms. I review profile data and folders and I can see files and config data that are platform dependent; then I think that share FULL PROFILE between is not the best approach, for example Linux and Windows will produce several problems (and a lot of problems with the add-ons) In these same mozilla docs recommends to share only data and maintain custom profile for each platform, but not more info how to do it. Please can some kind advanced :) provide some info about the correct approach. Or a better tech info about how is possible the recommendation of sharing same profile between platforms without problems. Because with the current doc info, there is no way to get a clear answer (Almost I can't :~). Thx guys!

Two different sets of bookmarks, and I want to make sure the best one wins. How?

I have different bookmarks sets on my two PCs, one correct (A), the other full of holes and missing files (B). In addition despite being told in the user interface that the PCs synced an hour ago, they haven't.

I try to follow https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sync-your-firefox-bookmarks-history-passwords-and-#w_step-1-unlink-all-of-your-devices-from-the-old-sync but fall down at the first hurdle:

"Click the menu button Fx57Menu and choose Options. Select the Sync panel. "

But I don't see a Sync panel.

Similarly there are frequent instructions such as:

"On a computer:

   Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Sign in to Sync and follow the instructions to create your account. "

There is no Sign in to Sync on my computer, despite my having logged in to Firefox Sync and being told that my PCs are syncing.

Odd.

Anyway, assuming that someone can point me in the right direction on this puzzling connundrum, I still have the problem of two very different bookmarks sets, A and B. I don't want B to pollute A, in fact I would like A to overwrite B. How to ensure that happens?

Sync Loss of Functionality

Before Firefox 29 I could tell my devices to copy all tabs, bookmarks, passwords,and history from Device A to Device B. THAT is what Sync used to be. Firefox 29 took away… (மேலும் படிக்க)

Before Firefox 29 I could tell my devices to copy all tabs, bookmarks, passwords,and history from Device A to Device B. THAT is what Sync used to be. Firefox 29 took away that functionality. I used to be able to flawlessly keep two other devices synced up with my main device. Now we have no control over our Sync accounts and it does nothing to Sync devices after you get the "Setup complete" graphic.

So after years of flawless Sync functionality, now all Sync does is nothing.

Mozilla took away functionality from their product. That is the issue I would like someone to address: bring back to Sync the ability to tell my devices to copy all tabs, bookmarks, passwords, and history from Device A to Device B.

what is sync

Well, I've been doing Firefox sync for a long time, and it seems to work pretty well. But I'm a little confused. What EXACTLY is going on? Note: I do NOT want to know how… (மேலும் படிக்க)

Well, I've been doing Firefox sync for a long time, and it seems to work pretty well. But I'm a little confused. What EXACTLY is going on? Note: I do NOT want to know how to set up sync. I know that.

First question. When sync is automatic, when exactly does it do it? I pull down and do "Open menu" with the three bars, and then hover over the sync arrows-in-the round. It might say "Last sync: 5 minutes ago", and it might say "Last sync: 5 seconds ago". Nothing happened on my Firefox five seconds ago or five minutes ago. So who told it to sync? What determines when it is supposed to sync? I presume Firefox automatically does a sync if you change a bookmark or password.

Second question. What exactly is a sync? I gather that if the sync file (containing bookmarks and everything) in the cloud is younger than the local sync file, the local sync file will be replaced by the one in the cloud. If the sync file in the cloud is older than the local sync file, that sync file in the cloud is replaced by the local one. Is that what's going on? That is, it's all about the time stamp? Do not tell me "Sync lets you share all of your data and preferences (such as your bookmarks, history, passwords, open tabs and installed add-ons) across all your devices." I know that.

Third question. Let's suppose I want sync to ONLY be manual. As in, it will ONLY sync when I do Tools>Sync Now. How do I set it up for that?

I have a Firefox Sync account. I had it since before the sync update. I was always signed in from my PC. Just now, I did a fresh installation of Windows 7.

Went ahead and installed Firefox. Entered my e-mail and password correctly. I signed in and I got the notification that the Sync will start momentarily. So I waited and waited, by old history, tabs, passwords etc weren't updated.

I disconnected and reconnected, same notification, same result. Nothing.

How can I get my old history, passwords etc back now? I'd like to add that before installing Firefox again I checked if everything was selected on the old installation and was synced.

Can't delete devices from "Send Tab to Device" menu

I tried Fennec F-Droid, a Firefox version built from source without proprietary code, signed into Firefox Sync, but after renaming the device, the device manager kept showing it as the default name. Changed two or three names, then gave up and installed regular Firefox. Now when I click on "Send Tab to Device" the menu shows the names I entered for the device which were not working, but the device manager shows only the actually connected devices, so those names are saved somewhere. This error is persistent with all the devices I synced. How do I remove them?

Firefox logged me in...without entering login information

I have a Firefox account and use it to sync across devices; being able to sync and then completely log out on one device is a primary reason I use Firefox.

I log out of devices that I do not own when I'm exiting Firefox. Today I opened Firefox on a device that I'm 100% certain I logged out of yesterday - and found that my bookmarks, bookmarks bar, and add-ons were already visible and active, and one of my add-ons was already logged in.

I verified that the Firefox Sync / login screen showed that no one was logged into the Firefox account, and then I logged in using my usual credentials. It reflected that I was then logged in, but everything else remained visible.

I followed Firefox instructions for viewing the logs, and strangely, there was no log. I went up a directory, and found that all the logs were in the 'failed' directory. Clicking on each of the failed subfolders shows only: ids []

This is very concerning because it entirely negates the security and privacy aspects of having a login. I was not logged into Firefox - and the Firefox interface confirmed that this morning, in addition to confirming it when I logged out yesterday - yet somehow not only were my personal bookmarks showing, but one of my add-ons was also logged in, providing further access to anyone who might have opened a Firefox window from this device.

"Unlink this device" hangs when attempting to set up new sync

Firefox's old sync was clunky but extremely useful. I can't get the new sync to work at all, which is not at all useful. Basically, I've gone to Settings > Options >… (மேலும் படிக்க)

Firefox's old sync was clunky but extremely useful. I can't get the new sync to work at all, which is not at all useful. Basically, I've gone to Settings > Options > Sync > Unlink this device. That displays a very large dialog box with just one very short statement on it which reads "Determining your account status ..." Apparently, that task takes a very long time indeed because I've let it sit there for two days, and it's still determining my account status. I can click OK or Cancel, and the dialog box will go away. Then, if I go back to Settings > Options > Sync, it doesn't even give me a chance to tell it I want to unlink. Instead it goes directly to the dialog box stating that it's still determining my account status.

I would very much like to be able to sync Firefox across a couple of computers. Is there any way to do that?

I have two computers. One is Windows 7 and the other Windows 8.1. On the 7, I get to the point where the screen shows Welcome to Sync with a blue manage button and a small window in the right corner that says Sync Enabled: Firefox will begin syncing momentarily. And it has been that way for 10 minutes. It never indicates it is syncing.

On the Windows 8.1 computer, I cannot determine whether the sync account is the old one. There is no sync option in the menu button. When I go to Tools/Sync Now nothing happens. Under the options/sync tab there is NO option to Unlink this device.

So I can't tell if I have the old sync program and couldn't unlink if I did. Meanwhile, nothing happens on either computer when I choose Sync Now.

I've already changed my password, but knowing that emails come with some delay and all you need is just a few seconds to sync all your passwords id say its a pretty bad thing..

Since some versions of Firefox, I don't know exactly since when, each time, I open the bookmark library or even if I set or change an existing bookmark, Firefox stops, the spinning wheel is visible and after about 20 seconds Firefox continues to be usable. This issue continues each time I do something with my bookmarks. I found that it is related to Firefox Sync. If I disable Sync, no problems at all. How can I fix this? Firefox is nearly unusable like this, because I depend strongly on the bookmarks. I have around 4000 Bookmarks. I already exported them, deleted all and imported again, no change. On my PC (Windows 8.1 - 64 Bit) I have not at all this problem.

PS.: I had to use a Proxy Server from US to get to this support page. I am in germany and there is no real german support page. Only a link to a user forum, where nobody can help if there are real bugs in Firefox like this, e.g. Is there another, maybe easier way, to get to this very support page than to cheat with proxy? Firefox will never ever open in maximized window after I log in with my Firefox account and make some changes to the toolbars. Advanced properties to make maximizing default won't work either. It hasn't worked for many Firefox versions I've tried and that caused me to use Chrome. But if you manage to fix this problem, I'll be more than happy to stick with Firefox.
