I switched to Firefox a couple of years ago when Quantum came out. I'm satisfied with it but the main reason I keep using it is grounded on ethics rather than usability (which is fine for me but won't win the stone hearts of more cynical users :-) ). I had this sort of superficial opinion: "Chrome is better, but I don't want to use it." Today I wanted to give Chromium another try. I thought about what it is that makes it better and figured out it almost completely boils down to the star icon functionality: I'm a heavy bookmarks user and Firefox makes me slow, compared to Chrome.

First, it doesn't use the latest location in which I saved a bookmark as a default (this was also requested, not by me, on http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&p=14770920). I often add a row of pages to a single bookmarks folder, but rather than selecting the tabs and adding all of them at once by dragging and dropping as Firefox allows, I prefer to check them on by one: add one, close it, take a look at the one that follows, either close it right away or add it, and so on. In Chrome it's done with a couple of shortcuts in quick succession, in Firefox its much clunkier because one needs to set the directory every time.

Then a really annoying and sort of antiquated-feeling characteristic of Firefox's star icon menu and bookmarks sidebar is that type-ahead motion in it (when I type the first letters of the name I want to move to) breaks on spaces. This kind of motion is the only one that is practical once one has a few hundred directories, but if I have a list of directories like ... "The Rolling Stones", "The Who"... I can only match up to "The" then I'm on my own.

These flaws slow down the menial job of adding bookmarks a lot. Other things that could bring an improvement in my opinion would be an "Open in folder" context menu item for bookmarks search results, and the possibility to restrict searches to defined folders. I think what I've described should be done natively and not by extensions.

Before Quantum, when I bookmarked a page, the bookmarks 'choose' would bring up a list to chose from. Such as 'menus', 'recipes', 'political', medical, 'computer' and a few others that I use the most. Now, it's only the basic Bookmarks toolbar', Toolbar Menu', 'Other toolbar' and 'Choose'. Now, when I click 'Choose', it only brings up 'Other bookmarks'. Below that, 'Folder'. I don't want to make a 'new' folder as I already have those folders in my bookmarks. I hope I'm explaining this OK and that someone can help me with this.

I have a lot of sites I check regularly and have them sorted in folders. I know the way to open a single bookmark without automatically switching to it, but when I open all the bookmarks in a folder, it automatically switches to the first bookmark in the folder. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

firefox quantum 60.7.0 on windows 10. When I try to save a bookmark, the drop down list of folders only shows 5 folders. I have dozens. I tried to open it in safe mode (no addons), but the behavior is the same. I have not lost the bookmarks. when I click the bookmarks menu item, they are all still there.

After Firefox updated to 65.0 it became terrible to use bookmarks. There are 3 ways to access them (sidebar, library->bookmarks, bookmarks item on toolbar), but all of them are inconvenient and time consuming. What was better in previous version? You only need to CTRL+B and choose one of the recent bookmarks which appeared on sidebar. But now to access recent bookmarks the shortest way is to go to library->bookmarks, which is more time-consuming. Another way to access, e.g. 15th recently bookmarked bookmark, is to go CTRL+B, expand "Other Bookmarks", and scroll whole list of bookmarks down. So why this list isn't sorted upside down by default to access recent bookmarks faster?

I don't know what changed, but in the last 2-3 days, when I bookmark a page, it automatically gets sent to the "Other Bookmarks" folder. IT DIDN'T USED TO DO THIS. Normally a small popup shows where I can specify the folder, bookmark name, and tags. Now I have to select command-D again, where it now says "Edit this bookmark", and change the location to where I wanted it in the first place. EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

I haven't done any FF updates, added any extensions, or messed with any system or css files.

Any thoughts on how this changed, or what I can do to fix? I briefly tried the "Default Bookmark Folder" add-on, but it doesn't help. Running FF 63.0.1 on a Mac

Hi,

Until the last few days, when bookmarking a page I was always offered the choice of where it should be stored.

Now, when I click "Bookmark this page" it saves it straight away and I must then go to "Edit this bookmark" to change its location.

Can anyone help with this please ?

The bookmarks drop-down drops below my screen and i'm unable to access the buttons below which are needed to create a new folder to add that bookmark to. I have attached a screenshot image to look at.

Version 63 just changed my sidebar bookmark menu to double spacing. How do I get back the single spacing? I don't do coding so hopefully there is a menu adjustment I can make somewhere.

Hi All,

Don't know how or when it changed, but the "line spacing" of the entries in my bookmarks library window have changed. I would like the leading/line spacing smaller. I can live with it as is, but it was different before. See attached image for exact location.

I've already set up a userChrome.css file. Using FF 63.0 on a Mac.

I'm not the only one with this problem, but it look like no one is bothering to fix it. Yes, I know there's external plug-in to patch the problem, but how did it get in there in the first place!!

I just installed Firefox 63.0 and discovered that the leading (inter-line space) between Bookmarks items has been increased.

Was this intentional? I find it an annoyance because I now have to scroll down more to see lists that easily fit on the screen vertically before. And the change adds nothing to readability.

I was previously on v. 57 I think. I upgraded to v. 62 and now the bookmarks don't work properly. If I try to rearrange them, they won't always move where I want them to. For instance, I have a folder and I want to move it two folder lower. I'll try to move it, and it'll stay right there. If I move the folder 8 spaces lower, then it'll move down one or two spaces. The same thing happens when I make separators, everything. Sometimes if I'm moving something from a lower position to a higher one it'll work correctly, sometimes. Moving from a higher position to lower seems to not work almost all of the time.

Okay, I just tried it again and it seems to be working for now. For the past two to three days it hasn't so I'll still post this to see if anyone has any help for if it starts up again.

After the last FireFox update, the additional folders that I have set up in the Bookmark drop box are all disabled and greyed out. You can access the website links that are already in the various folders, but you can not add any website links to them because they are no longer listed.

How can I enable these various folders again?

In one of the recent Firefox updates, the "New Bookmark" panel that appears when you click the star on the location bar seems to have got a new "preview" feature that shows a snippet of the website. Fancy, but it takes valuable screen space. Especially after expanding the folder menu; then the whole bottom part with the "done" button goes invisible if you have a smallish screen.

Is there a way to turn off the preview feature (through about:config perhaps)?
