I rebooted my computer after it crashed, due to what appeared to be a hard drive error (at first when I restarted the computer I got the message, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed)". Once I managed to get the PC started again I opened Firefox and found out that all of my saved passwords were gone as well as nearly all of my browsing history, which goes back over a year. Strangely enough, not everything is deleted - there are still several webpages that I visited in the past that still show up in the browser history, especially from the last few months. Not only that, but when I scroll through list of web results, webpages that I previously visited are still highlighted in purple, even though many of them do not show up in the much reduced browser history. Does this mean that the remainder of the browsing history is still somewhere? The Firefox profile is the same one as before the crash.

Thank you!

My laptop died - but have FULL back up on ACRONIS cloud ... I want to find & restore my Firefox BOOKMARKS/ favorites etc. FIREFOX creates a PROFILE that contains all the data... BUT its hard to find!!??

I know location is USERname>AppData> Roaming>Mozilla>Firefox> PROFILES

BUT ... on my NEW Laptop when I go down through C:Drive hierarchy I cant see "AppData" If I search I can find ... BUT I cant actually locate via USER NAME.... Is this to do with HIDDEN FILES???

So when I go to my CLOUD BACKup I have the same problem. I can search & see ...but cant find in the hierarchy so I can recover those files & re-install on my new laptop... Any ideas where these hidden files are located?

Any ideas?

Thx for any help Cheers Keith

I use firefox on Mac OS 10.14.6. Every time I quit firefox (Stopping the program, not simply closing all windows) everything is reset to defaults. For all intents and purposes, it's as though I deleted and re-installed firefox every time I quit out of it. Bookmarks are removed, and any default bookmarks I removed are re-instated. It also opens up the set-up and privacy web pages that it does for the first time when you open it. None of the preference files are locked, it's set to remember history and I'm not permanently in private browsing, it's not even supposed to delete cookies. It's been like this since the moment I installed it; refreshing firefox changes nothing, uninstalling and reinstalling it also changes nothing. The only thing that stays the same is that my computer keeps firefox as my default browser.

Normally after I restart my computer everything in Firefox works just fine. I have the "restore last session" turned on and it will load my last session. But the last two times I've restarted my computer I have to resign into my Mozilla account, "restore previous session" is not an option, I have to reinstall my add-ins. It fortunately still has my history but it's a super big hassle as I keep browser tabs open to remember things.

I'm on a 2020 MacBook Pro running version 10.15.7 and I'm using Firefox version 80.0.1.

Short Story:

So basically I am a fool....I just screwed myself and told Firefox to go ahead and delete my entire Desktop folder that is now unfortunately unrecoverable.... I think? Is there hope?

Long Story: So for the past few days I've been noticing that the audio from any video that I play on Youtube and other websites keeps getting cut off. My temporary fix was to hit refresh but rewinding and pausing and resuming the videos also worked. I thought it was either a Windows update (am using Windows 10 Pro) or something was wrong with the audio hardware/software on my computer.

Lo and behold, it was actually Firefox because the audio was fine on both Chrome and on Microsoft Edge. Decided to do a quick Google search for a solution and someone suggested to create a new profile using about:profiles in the url. So I did, and being the fool that I am, I went ahead and decided the location of the new profile to be on my Desktop. So I opened Firefox with the new profile and it fixed the issue. The audio on every video that I played was finally working as it should. But then I decided to go back to the old profile to see if the audio was still working and it was for some strange unknown reason, so I went ahead and deleted the new profile I created and I also accidentally deleted all the files and folders that was on my Desktop..... It even gave me a warning that I chose to ignore, silly me.

I did not know that Firefox was capable of bypassing the Recycle Bin and deleting files on hard drives, this is shocking!

I used the Easeus Data Recovery Wizard and it did not find anything except for old files that were already deleted a long time ago. I even checked the Recycle Bin to no avail.

Thanks for any help but I feel I am at a lost.....

I did not know the "recovery key" (I had password but this additional key is required too - wtf?!!$) of my Firefox account and LOST ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS!!! This was years of research on specific subjects.

Is anyone aware of a way to recover these bookmarks? Your help is most appreciated!!!

I've exported/imported firefox settings before (bookmarks, etc) but this time I didn't get a chance to export before my computer blew up. So when I logged on to Firefox on my new computer, I didn't have my password. It forced me to reset my password....but then none of my bookmarks transferred over. I thought they would be tied to my login and I could still recover them without the files from my old hard drive. That doesn't seem right to me, what am I missing? How do I recover the bookmarks saved on my Firefox login? I had soooo many....

thanks in advance!

Hi,

I need technical help on recovering my lost bookmarks. I have followed the suggested recovery methods and when I move today's backup "file ....json" (?) (as one suggested) to the bookmarks menu, clicked on it to open, it does nothing. If I click on the saved file on my desktop it's a bunch of mumbo jumbo...like writing code. I even tried importing it and I get nothing. I deleted Mozilla Firefox and reinstalled it and still nothing.

I'm so lost on this....

Cananyone help?

Instead of the OLD, tried and true bookmarks system.

Tell me how i can get them back?

go on....you know it's impossible.

So go on, how does one STRIP out the LOCKSAFE? How does one revert back to their bookmarks before this person that forced a addon upon us?

Opening the logins.json file shows nothing - it's empty. Checking the about:profiles shows the current one plus 2 others. One has logins but is from 2018 so most are wrong, (most of my currect logins have the firefox generated passwords) the other has none. Can I get them back?

Just had a session crash on me, still got the Crash Reporter open. It was a session with a Private Window open, in which I was doing most of my work. Six months, that is, of work and reading. I'm aware of the general irretrievability of private browsing sessions, but it seems a good idea to be very certain and exhaust the possibilities before I unpause my meltdown.

Like I said, the Crash Reporter is still open. Looking at it now. With the language suggesting to me that as long as I leave it open, Firefox hasn't quit or restarted in "full", to my understanding—that the session is still extant in some way. With the checkbox 'Include the address of the page I was on' too... Well, the page I was on was in a Private Window all right. Unless there's a loophole not noted in the Reporter that it can't/doesn't retrieve addresses from private browsing, or that it automatically substitutes the last non-private address, etc.... Then this means the information still exists, doesn't it? Crash be damned? Right now, at least as long as the reporter is open... The implication to me is at least that one bit of information is not completely lost. And if that's not lost, then maybe the other pages in the tab aren't lost yet either. Or all the other tabs in the window. Or the copious notes I'd been maintaining in the address bar's history.

Not that I think there's somehow a quick fix/retrieval possible, but if there's anything at all possible here, I'll try and do it. Regardless if it goes far beyond what can managed through Firefox normally. Private Browsing data is stored in memory, right? So if my surmise that the data has not actually been flushed from memory yet is correct, isn't there something radical I can do to freeze or dump the current state of my memory? Maybe the entire state of my system even, such that the data can be analyzed/retrieved at a later time? Whether it requires a technical touch and mastery leaps and bounds above my current literacy, or if it would need to undergo some drawn-out, folding@home-esque process to be decompiled and analyzable... Literally, if something is possible in this situation where I at least think the data still exists and is calling back or accessible to the Firefox application in some form, I need to consider it.

I'm running Windows 10 and Firefox 74 (again, tells you how long it's been since I restared Firefox). Anyone who can potentially assist or help guide me through this little Armageddon, you have no idea how much your help would be appreciated. Conversely, if you know for a fact that the tiny shred of hope I'm clinging to per my conjecture about the Crash Reporter and the current state of my Firefox is wrong... Then fire away, it's a bullet I guess I'll be biting.

They are gone from the logins.json file that still has many others.

The saved login data (username, password) for several pages (that all sit on one and the same domain in different folders -- no idea if that matters) have suddenly disappeared. I did no Firefox update. I use no sync. There is no logins.json.corrupt file. And the logins.json file looks totally clean in a text editor. The JSON objects for those pages' URLs are simply no longer resident among the many others into whose online sites/pages I can still log in picking the saved login data. (I don't know if any other saved logins have disappeared. There are too many to mentally keep track of.)

The only thing that may be special: I added a new login for a new page on that domain, and later on the same day all of them were gone when I tried to log into one of them again.

Does anyone know how and why this can happen? Why would Firefox (version 64.0) drop certain page logins while keeping others -- and when not manually asked by me to delete any? Does it do this when there are more than 4 or 5 per a single domain? And is there any backup file somewhere when it does that? Some totally weird Firefox bug behind this or a powerful hacker attack? I am quite nonplussed. Can someone enlighten me?

Hello

I have a problem when restoring the file from one computer to another, when I want to restore it it gives this error "Unable to process the backup file". I have been looking for some program that allows me to unzip or remove the data or repair.

I have consulted many forums and videos and I cannot know if the failure is irreparable or is there any way to get the information I have consulted this page but it does not finish working https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/bookbackreader.html

"File name: bookmarks-2020-07-24_1163_gm8tLHmdNSoVAHsxUPQZAg==.jsonlz4; Size: 137303; last modified 24/7/2020 9:46:12 (failed JSON parsing: SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data)"

Can anybody help me?

thanks,

Every couple of months I will start up my computer and find all my settings have changed and my Firefox add-ons are gone. I was not able to discern why but I made some changes in the configuration and got the text size back to what I wanted. This time it happened none of those configurations changed but I still had changed text size. I refreshed Firefox and found my add-ons immediately were reinstalled even though they were shown to be working when I checked my browser settings. One of the add-ons was Yahoo Mail ad blocker. I have used Yahoo Mail for years. Recently they have tried to make changes in my mail display to where I am being forced to go ad-free and upgrade to a mail subscription. After this most recent challenge to my computer setting, I am beginning to think Yahoo is disabling the Yahoo Ad Mail Blocker to get me to go to their subscription. Either that or Microsoft is challenging me to use their browser. It is like their is a war going on to win the internet. I miss the old Internet. Is there anything that can be done so my settings don't get hijacked?
