I have my Firefox settings to open search results links in a new tab. I can get this to happen with Google, but I *rarely* use it. I prefer Bing. My settings are for links to open in a new tab, and they won't do that with Bing.

I have read what others have suggested about fixing this problem. I made changes in about:config with no result. I opened in Firefox safe mode and didn't find anything on my own. Will check out any tips though.

This has only recently become an issue. I know that Ads have always opened in the same tab and I do not care to right-click or use ctrl.

Another issue I suddenly had with the latest new design update was that when I used the Bing search box, it started switching to an address bar search. I was able to fix that.

Anyone know a sure cure?

Hi! I'm going nuts. I have Firefox set to NOT remember sessions when I close and re-open. But every time I re-open the (latest) Firefox on my (up to date) Mac, 3 tabs reappear. It doesn't matter how often I delete history or cookies or empty caches. They are not even 3 tabs from the most recent session! They are from a week ago. And no, they are not pinned tabs!

And yes, I have reinstalled Firefox.

Any idea what I should do?

Many thanks!

Hi, I have been using Firefox for many years now, but just recently it has annoyingly started to randomly scroll up or down. This may happen almost immediately, or it may only happen after a few minutes. This is extremely disconcerting when reading (for example) a large webpage or forum.

Initially I thought it was a faulty mouse. I tried swapping out the mouse, but then I discovered that even if I open the browser, scroll (using the scroll wheel on the mouse) partway down a page, and then immediately turn off both mouse and keyboard, it still randomly scrolls (usually up) after a few seconds. I have also tried to see if I can get any other application to do this, but no, it is definitely only Firefox.

A quick read online and somebody else mentioned "Enhanced mouse scroll" or something similar, but I think they are talking about a Windows "feature". I am running Ubuntu 20.04 64 bit with the latest version (98.0) of Firefox.

I have not changed any settings with my browser in recent times either, however there have been periodic Ubuntu updates, and this covers Firefox updates too. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Hello,

I use FF with the setting on start to restore the tabs of the last session.

Now I need a specific tab active/focused on start. (It is a WebRTC for our phone system and if it not focused at start ring tone will not be played)

Is there a way to start with my last opened tabs restored but this specific tab active and in selected/focused.

Pinning this tab seems to load it but WILL not play a ringtone without clicked first. If I end FF with this tab active and therefore the tab is active on next start the ring tone will be played.

But knowing me I WILL forget to click on this tab either on start or before ending FF.

Regards

I use the Feedbro-Addon, which creates an own tab. Its url is: moz-extension://285d678c-ecb3-4003-923d-835fc9d8e0bc/reader.html

If I use it as a normal tab (instead of a pinned tab) ... it survives a Firefox restart. But if I use it as a pinned tab (which I want) ... it disappears after a Firefox restart.

I suppose it has to do with it being an addon-page instead of a "normal" page.

Is there a way to make it stay permanently pinned?

it's extremely annoying to have to stop what i'm doing and play "lets find the active tab" when i have tons of youtube videos qued in open tabs. in opera, the logic is there out of the box, but in firefox, it doesn't exist. why such logic wouldn't exist is beyond me, but i see this as an annoying problem that needs fixed. i want to simply glance up at the tabs and see which one is playing without having to spend time digging through the open tabs to find the one that's playing or having to freakin memorize which one it was i don't have time for that.

i followed the guide in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1291998 i did exactly everything as instructed but it did absolutely nothing, no change at all.

Firefox has not been playing nice, and it is starting to worry me that if I continue to use it, my computer may suffer damage due to crashes.

It only seem to happen when I'm playing videos, such from YouTube and Twitch. It causes most of the time the tab to crash and require me to simply reload the page. There have been 2 times however that it has caused Windows OS to completely crash, requiring a restart. I have a picture of the error codes present, but one thing is shared between them. They all contain the reason EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_READ. This has pointed me to consider it to be the same issue. It may also be a issue with the new computer itself, or maybe something to do with the graphics card. I'll start with this first to see if it's something bigger or not.

I also hope that the trouble shooting data can also help, as I rather know how to fix this then be secretive with information that may help.

As as a final note, as of this moment, while being within safe mode/trouble shooting mode, no tabs have crashed yet. Hope this is a sign, but I'll keep it on just to make sure the videos aren't crashing anymore.

It's so frustrating that the keyboard shortcut for closing tabs is right beside the one to quit Firefox. I've lost countless hours because of this, and it's so easy to accidentally do. Is there a way to keep this from happening? A simple "Are you sure" confirmation dialog would be great, or I really like the Chrome "hold command-Q" to exit feature. This seemingly simple function is proving extremely difficult to accomplish.

Yes, I'm aware of session restore, but (1) It does not preserve my window arrangement. I use multiple desktops for various tasks, and they each have related browser windows. (2) I need to see webpages exactly as they were when I opened them. Sessions expire, dynamic pages are refreshed, content is removed etc. That is all lost.

I do not want to disable session restore completely. It can still be useful. But, I do not want to trigger session restore automatically every time. Manual activation is ideal.

regarding: "browser.tabs.warnOnClose" I do not want a warning for closing multiple tabs. I often have many windows open and that warning gets annoying. It also doesn't prevent me from accidentally quitting when I only have one tab open.

I tried setting browser.warnOnQuit to true, but it's ignored.

I simply want a confirmation when I use the keyboard shortcut to QUIT. That's it. No side effects. Can Firefox do this?

I have open half a dozen or so tabs related to one subject. I would like to put them all into one "super tab", such that only the super tab shows as an open tab. Then, by clicking on that tab, it would show the tabs within it, any one or more of which could be selected. Is this possible, and if so how is it done? Perhaps there's an add-on or extension that would do this.

I have already created a multi-tab bookmark that sorta, maybe accomplishes the same thing. But it's not as convenient as what I envision as described above.

Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom.

Hello Mozilla Community,

While selecting all my tabs to move some of them to another window, I misclicked and it opens them all twice.

Immediately after I made the mistake to accept closing what I thought was the doublons, but instead it closed them all except for the few doublons remaining.

There were many important tabs opened months ago, that's why I'm asking help.

I don't know what happened but I found this thread (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1310742) and followed some of the steps.

I managed to recover the recovery_backlzk4 in excellent state from around twenty minutes before the problem, and tried to read the URLs from it with this person's tool: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html

It did not work, so I don't know what to do.

Can someone explain me if there is still something to do about it or not?

Thank you very much

Dear Mozilla Support,

After some update (I think from 89.0.0 version of Mozilla Firefox - this version with new looks of tabs) I notice flickering on the tab when I loading website or refresh website. This looks very strange. Like I said I dindn't notice any issue with flickering on previous Mozilla Firefox versions. Only with these new versions with new look of the tabs. I didn't remember if it was 89.0.0 version or 90.0.0 version. I don't know if it is problem with the machine but I didn't notice this issue on another computer with 90.0.2 Firefox version but with Windows 10 OS. I also noticed this issue with Firefox 90.0.0.2 with Windows 7 OS on another computer so I don't know if this is problem with two computers or Firefox itself. Can you help me?

Yours faithfully, Piotr

G'Day,

I earlier posted with respect to getting tabs to appear below the address and search bars on the browser. I managed to solve that issue; however, the solution has produced a curious side effect.

When the browser has entered Full-Screen, the tabs-bar does not disappear and appears as it would in a normal browser window while both the address and search bars have been hidden. Is there some way to fix this?

As well, on a Windows 8.1 lap-top, using the CSS below, the very top of the browser has been cut off. It is not possible to see the browser control icons nor is the menu-bar visible.

A screen capture is attached as well as the CSS which was suggested in my earlier post about getting the tabs below the address bar.

Thanks,

Jim

I generally have loads of tabs open, and until recently this wasn’t an issue (perhaps until last upgrade?), but now, I can hardly move between tabs, the drop down list showing tab selection doesn’t work, nor does the left/right arrows. When I delete a tab, it leaves a ‘space’ where the tab was, only ‘back filling’ after I’ve opened up another tab to full screen mode and then minimised it again, at which point it goes to the very left-most tab and the only way I can get to tabs further down the list, is by deleting them in the manner described. I’ve actually got 2 laptops (Win 7 & 8.1), and it’s now happening on both of them. This might have something to do with memory management/the computer’s page file, but as things stand, I’m SERIOUSLY going to be switching to another browser - despite sticking with Firefox for many-a-year. BTW, I’m actually writing this on my phone, as I couldn’t now do it on either of my laptops (hence I’m currently unable to attach anything/provide screen grabs etc. I guess the only way to ‘clear’ this issue, would be to either close/restart Firefox or my laptop - neither of which I really want to do. Is there a way that I can use an earlier version of the browser and prevent it automatically updating? Yours, a now very frustrated longtime user,

My current browser (version in header), has stopped saving previous session. I followed the advise from FredMcD on this page https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1345654, and the browser is still not saving tabs. From Fred's post, I couldn't find any "sessionstore.jsoniz4" files in the browser folder. I did find the "sessionstore-backup" folder and deleted it. I restarted Firefox, opened a folder and then stopped Firefox and restarted it again, and I only went to the Firefox Home page. The "restore session" box is selected.

What else should I try??
