Win10 with what was Firefox 89. I had already disabled the Proton UI on this installation, because it is horrible. Today Firefox decided to update to version 91. All of the Proton UI junk is back. I tried disabling it again, but nothing worked. Doing a web search, it appears that Mozilla has disabled the ability to turn off Proton.

I then set about to rollback the installation back to version 89. I found a Mozilla link on this, went to their ftp server and downloaded the installation files for the last version of 89. The installation went normally, but when I opened Firefox afterwards, a little box popped up saying something to the effect of "To keep your History and Bookmarks from possibly being corrupted, Firefox must create new user profile." I exited out of this and Firefox didn't start. I attempted to restart Firefox again and the same box popped up again. The only way to get past it was to click the accept button.

I did so and Firefox started. This was clearly not version 89. As the UI is junk, it took several minutes to find out that this was now the latest version of 92!!!! I'm absolutely positive that I downloaded the correct file. When I look through the update history, it doesn't even show todays version 89 installation as happening. What a piece of junk.

I then spent 20 minutes figuring out how to revert back to my user profile, not the new one that it had created for me. I then did some research on what had happened. Well it turns out that you can't actually rollback Firefox, despite what Mozilla says. For a while they have added "downgrade protection" which automatically creates the new user profile and stops your old profile from being accessed by it. So unless you want to figure out how to spend a hundred hours reconstructing bookmarks, passwords, settings, etc. it actually isn't possible to rollback Firefox. Doesn't this violate some Microsoft rules about being able to uninstall versions of software from within Windows? If you try to do this with Firefox and go back to a previous version it blows everything up.

Does anyone know how to actually rollback Firefox to a previous version, so that Proton can be disabled?

Part of my morning chores is the printing (and databasing) of some of today's news as available on the Internet. I use Win2Pdf as my printer and have never had problems. Over the past couple of days FF has printed one webpage okay but it hangs when moving to preview on any subsequent webpage. Rebooting FF is the only solution I have found but the new boot only prints the one webpage and hangs on subsequent pages. This means that I have to reboot FF every time I want to print a webpage - something of a PITA.

I have re-installed FF (92.0 64-bit) and run through the troubleshooting options. No improvement.

What's the hangup? How do I fix it?

Hi guys. I have Windows PC machine running for several years now. No new program updates or installs recently, no restarts. And then yesterday, suddenly Firefox started to crash all youtube tabs. Not even videos itself, but also www.youtube.com crashes. Any idea how could i find out, what the hell is going on? Microsoft edge is working fine with youtube. I have tried troubleshoot mode, same. Windows 10.

What can possibly cause this? Thank you.

Windows 10 x64 Pro Firefox 92.0

Is there a way to restore the appearance of Firefox Bookmarks to v88 or earlier? The extra space between each Bookmark is a pain and none of the "fixes" seem to work.

I am not up with messing around with css files to make things seem as they was.

I have Proton Colors Add-on and that supposed to make things look as they did before but they do not.

When Firefox updated to 91.0 I reinstalled v88 which was fine - apart from Firefox nagging me on a daily basis to update to 92.0 which I stupidly did.

Any suggestions please?

Peter

I'm using Firefox version 92.0 (64 bit) on an HP 350 G1 notebook running Windows 10.

It seemed that it was after the 92.0 (64 bit) update that I cannot open bookmarks that are PDFs. The correct URL is present, but nothing loads, it's just a blank black page. I have tried turning off the add-ons and refreshing the page, closing and reopening Firefox with the add-ons manually turned off, restarting Firefox with the add-ons disabled, and restarting in safe mode. All of the attempts were performed without any positive results.

I can copy the URL on Firefox and paste it in Edge, and it opens the correct page. I installed Chrome against my better judgment and pasted the URL, and the correct page opens again. I can copy the URL in either Edge or Chrome, paste it on Firefox, and the same results occur as if I clicked on the link in my bookmarks on Firefox. I can click on the bookmark from either the home page or a page that's already opened, and nothing happens. The URL doesn't change on the existing page, and on the home page, "Search with DuckDuckGo or enter address" in the UL space does not change to the URL that I'm trying to open. Is there something I'm missing?

This is one of the URLs that I am trying to open if you want to try it yourself on Firefox: https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/wireless/Devices-Working-on-ATT-Network.pdf

I only ever use Edge when I'm having an issue with Firefox, (usually it's when I'm trying to log on to an account or something and I can't, then I realize that it may be one of my add-ons preventing it. I then disable them one by one until I'm able to achieve what I want.

I don't want to have to switch back and forth between Firefox and Edge just to view three PDFs, so if someone knows what could be the resolution to this, I would appreciate it greatly.

I have no screen capture whatsoever - no menu comes up with a right click, no screen capture icon is present to add to the menu. I used to have an add on but that disappeared and is no longer available. From your latest tips letter I think I'm using a different browser entirely! If you can help I'd appreciate it- as I say I used to have it in my browser but no longer. Now I have to screen capture and edit it in an external program- I'm sure you'll agree this is horrific to have to do.

First of this issue is atleast 4 years old. I found various different people having this problem. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1432644 It should be a P5 not a P3. This official Mozilla article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-trusted-websites-your-allow-list-firefox-focus Does NOT work.

I am trying to add an expection to tracking protection but there is no such option, as descriped at Bugzilla. In the adress bar i removed the tracking protection for a website. But it was NOT added to the exception list. I dont allow 3rd party cookies and auto delete cookies when closing Fox. I think that is the reason why it's not working, if this is the case it's a bug.

What i actually tried to do, using dark-theme from duckduckgo permanently. Because as right now, i must change the theme every single time i reopen Firefox. This is Bull**** honestly. Even when i add duckduckgo as an addon, it does not save the dark theme!

I've tried everything I can find about this. The Firefox page-info permissions is now set to "ALLOW" although it was set to use default (ALWAYS ASK). It just doesn't work. In the regular settings for microphone, it will NOT ALLOW me to add the website and apparently, FB is NOT asking for permission, because the entire dialog is EMPTY.

Doing a search for this change provides hundreds of topics and thousands of folks complaining about the added spaces between menu items and no real solution. I found one that entails making changes to the chrome file and proton, I tried this and it doesn't work for me and I shouldn't have to make changes to files in the first place. If anyone from the development team is listening, I know you had to satisfy those using touch screens, but how about making it easy for us to change the spacing a bit tighter. Many of us have lots of bookmarks and find we now have to scroll to find the ones at the bottom, then go to the top again to select "open in......". Could you add a simple toggle, "wide menu spacing or close menu spacing"? Anything that worked on version 89 or 90, does not work now. Please, this really is frustrating

Since sometime in August 2021, I suspect after an update, occasionally when I launch Firefox it reports that it was unable to restore a previous session. I do not have the option to open previous sessions selected. On other occasions it starts properly with a blank page as it is configured to do.

Am I missing a setting?

It is not a major problem, I can simply enter a URL or search string in the address bar and it works properly for the rest of the session.

It is happening both on my Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 10 Pro PCs running the 64-bit version of Firefox.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

I've tried some of the "solutions" on Firefox's help pages, but nothing helps. Starting Firefox in "Trouble-shooting mode" doesn't help, and some of the posted "solutions" don't even apply to the current version of Firefox.

Sometimes I have the same problem if I use Google Chrome, but the problem is worse with Firefox.

What's going on? How do I fix the problem?

Thanks in advance.
