So I asked a question yesterday with the same problem but since then I've done a lot of my own research & what-not so I'm hoping I'm little more educated on what to do, however I'm just not fully understanding what I'm doing wrong, unfortunately.

So a run down of what happened yesterday. I was told by a microsoft guy to do a factory reset but select the option to keep my files. Which I did. I thought because I have a Firefox account my passwords will be uneffected. I did the reset & came back, downloaded firefox for their website, went to sign in & of course, I forgot my password for that, I hit forgot password & I was told to insert a 32 key code. I was never once given a code, I've had my account for yeeeears. I had to forgo entering the code & yup, everything has been wiped.

Since then in my research, I've heard many people talking about C:/Windows.old/users/kelsi/AppData/roaming/mozilla/firefox/profiles - I have this in my folders. Inside that there's also logins & logins-backup (JSON files) & key4 file. When I open up the logins into my notepad app, I see all my sites that I have passwords for (encrypted) so they are there! I then also have C:/Users/kelsi/AppData/roaming/mozilla/firefox/profiles/profiles (there's two folders labelled profiles). I was speaking to a few users online who said that I've to copy & paste the C:/Windows.old(...)profiles onto the C:/Users (...)/profiles & then start up firefox again. I did all that, opened up firefox again but nothing. However in the c:/users folder upto & into the profiles folder, it's got the key4, logins, logins-backup there. When I open the logins file on notepad, all my encrypted passwords are now also in the c:/users(...) profiles section.

So I'm just wondering what to do now. I feel like I've gone crazy trying to figure this out. I've got a lot of resources to use, spoke to so many people but I seem to have hit a deadend. I'm a complete beginner with all of this, I only use my laptop for Firefox, so I really don't know much about the ins & outs of anything else. I am hoping this makes sense to someone & can point me in the right direction of either where to go next or what I've done wrong (I can't emphasis enough how much of a beginner I am, so please make it easy to understand) Thank you in advance.

• Old laptop can no longer access the internet; corrupt Windows 10. Bought a new HP laptop. Have Sync turned on on both laptops but am not getting any favorites, passwords that I desperately need. What are my options given the old laptop can't connect.

I cannot figure out how to add my favorite things to the toolbar. The toolbar doesn't even show up at the top of my page. I just get a string of random bookmark names under the address bar with the Other bookmarks folder at the end. I can't even get rid of "Finish Setup" which is the last one shown. How do I do find where the toolbar is hidden and get it to show? Once I do find it, how can I add my favorite items to the toolbar? I even had ask a question online to find out how to restore my most recent bookmark which was backed up in the documents folder on my computer. Any suggestions would be very helpful. I don't like the way Mozilla Firefox looks now. It isn't as easy to use. I have included what the top of page looks like now. I am sorry I didn't think to keep one of how it used to be.

This morning Firefox stopped loading new tabs, which usually means it is due for an update and restart. On my work computer, updates are managed by my organization, so I cannot prompt it to check for updates directly, but rather can just restart the application and it updates once closed. Today when I closed the window then clicked the shortcut to reopen, it notified me the exe file had been removed and prompted me to open the Windows store and reinstall, which I did. I have no indication as to why it uninstalled. All of my bookmarks and other history appear to have been wiped.

I have been trying on the support site to see if this data is recoverable, but nothing has panned out so far.

I have used Firefox as my primary browser for almost twenty years and frequently encourage friends and family to use it if they don't already. I have never experienced anything like this before. I am hopeful somebody will be able to assist me where reading through support center options hasn't yet, but if this is not resolvable, I'm done- the crash helpfully wiped everything clean, after all.

Today I needed to reboot my browser, and did so they same way i've done countless times before, but when I restarted it only 10 of the 11 windows I had open before closing it were in the "Recently closed windows" section of "History".Please tell me there's some way to recover that window.I had a lot of tabs open in that window that I need back.Why would Firefox just discard it like this?Like I said, i've done this so many times without an issue.

EVERY TIME I CLOSE FF WHEN I REPOPEN IT, I END UP BACK AS IF I JUST INSTALLED IT. ALL MY BOOKMARKS ARE GONE, ALL MY EXTENSIONS ARE GONE, LIKE I JUST INSTALLED IT.

I'VE TRIED UNINSTALLING AND REINSTALLING AND IT STILL DOES IT.

I have just restarted my computer following installation of updated software. I find that Firefox has lost all my bookmarks. Are they stored somewhere, and if so how can I recover them?

Hi i have lost my bookmarks, comes up Import bookmarks, my sync is on, I have gone through and checked library and there are no backups, restore? No idea why this happened, they all just disappeared? Any other advice to try please?

I've just booted my machine and opened Firefox, only to be presented with a completely fresh install.

All my settings, bookmarks and history gone. It was fine yesterday when I closed it and powered down.

I'm running Kubuntu, I've checked the .mozilla folder and nothing...it's like my profile has just been overwritten.

Not happy at all, I'm starting to dislike Firefox.

Can anyone offer any help or advice please?

I would like to know what happened to all of my bookmarks I had when I opened my firefox, nothing is there and I can't seem to find out how to restore them.. what ever you have done to firefox, mozilla I hate to say I don't like it at all.. thanks

bookmark bar and all my bookmarks are gone I followed Support instructions, clicked on Manage bookmarks and went nowhere. I really need this function to work as I am sight impaired and can't use my phone for much. Please help.

My Win10 & Win11 pc's updated to this version and they all have the same problem: The bookmarks have disappeared. Including my pinned bookmarks on FF's opening page.

I also just noticed that there are no "toolbar items".

I've tuned in to Firefox this morning to find that I'm kind of shut out, no access to my usual apps, and required to enact some difficult backing up etc. When I explore, it seems to relate to Windows 10 losing its backup from Microsoft. But I'm running Windows 11, not 10. What's going on? Is this legitimate? If so, why is it complicated and why wasn't it forewarned (by Firefox)?

Hello, FF 139.0.4 on MAC Sequoia15.5. Lost ALL references to bookmarks, i.e. Bookmarks Toolbar totally gone. How can/do I restore from .jsonlz4 file in bookmarkbackups. Also, will I be able to salvage my previous profile, presumably containing my older "Tabs on Bottom" work-around? Alternatively, is there a process to restore JUST Firefox from Time Machine? Appreciate any advice.

The initial problem I was dealing with was FF kept directing me to Youtube every time I clicked on a NORMAL link in my google search. 🤷‍♀️ I tried several different links but same result....Youtube again!

This is where I went down the rabbit hole. 🙄 My first step was to get some help with my Firefox browser for this 'redirecting' issue. Under the help heading, "More Troubleshooting Information" I found "Give Firefox a Tune-Up using Refresh". Hmmm, maybe this will fix the issue?? I carefully read the following before proceeding....

"Start fresh to fix performance issues. This will remove your extensions and customizations. You WON'T LOSE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION LIKE BOOKMARKS AND PASSWORDS."

WRONG!!! MISLEADING!!! LIES LIES LIES!!! 😡😤😡

I lost almost ALL of my saved bookmarks except for TEN (the most recently used) that still remained after the refresh was completed! I literally lost over a hundred of them that I had accumulated while using Firefox for so many years!! 😲😣🤦‍♀️ 21 different folders, Home, Travel, Shopping, Banking etc, each containing 10-30 OR MORE bookmarks to sites I need to SAVE to be able to revisit later when needed. ALL GONE!!! 😡😤

I have been loyally using ONLY Firefox as my browser for 2 decades!! Now the only thing I can say about Firefox is a whole lot of curse words!!

WHY WOULD FIREFOX INCLUDE SUCH A #$@&! STATEMENT??? "You won't lose essential information like Bookmarks and Passwords"......YES YOU WILL!!!

This NEEDS TO BE REMOVED!!

Why not be an honest and reliable browser?? Include information that if you perform a refresh, you WILL lose these essentials but you might possibly be able to recover them from hidden files somewhere, but you won't easily know where to find them!! 😉

The next time I have ANY issues using Firefox I won't be 'refreshing' nothing at all!! I won't troubleshoot NOTHING!! I will just copy and save all of my bookmarks and SWITCH TO GOOGLE CHROME!! 👍

Today I opened Mozilla at my laptop. It malfunctioned (videos froze, pages did not fully download), so I closed the window and after a couple of seconds I reopened it. My previous session was gone. I read your articles regarding this issue, did what was described there, but nothing has changes. I lost everything! Job videos, hobby pages - everything! A couple of pages can be restored via history, but that's it! I didn't do anything special before closing the window!

When I tried to log in to my account earlier today, I found that it was gone. I used my recovery key to create a new password and now lost all data, passwords etc. What do I do now? Why did this happen? I am not very computer literate but have tried all of the suggestions in your help forum and nothing works. Nothing has changed on my computer since my last login yesterday. Firefox is my home page and browser.
