Every solution which I have found for Firefox 89 "Proton" so far which moves the Tabs Bar below the Navigation Bar (AKA "address bar"), with the Menu Bar above it, does NOT move the Tabs Bar below the Bookmarks Bar. The Bookmarks Bar appears to be overwritten and blank, and occupies space below the Menu Bar, Navigation Bar, and Tabs Bar. This empty space separates the three bars which are implemented and the content of the currently-selected tab below it.

Currently, my userChrome.css file is a copy posted by Corel-10 (?): __________________________________________________________________________________________________

Evidently, the text editor for this website does several things to the above original text that, frankly, seem unnecessary and undesirable. The .CSS file is just an unformatted text file, so what is the problem with simply copying its contents and pasting it in to the body of this post?

Which is also to say that I do NOT have a clue as to what any line in the file is meant to do, what effect it has, why it is even in the file at all, or why it is written in the way that it is. So DO NOT tell me that I "CAN" create a Cascading Style Sheet on my own when I cannot even modify one that has been provided.

On the face of it, something is missing from the above CSS text. What change needs to be made to the above content so that the Bookmark Bar will appear between the Navigation Bar and the Tabs Bar??

Thank-you very much for your time and attention to this request for assistance.

I finally turned off the menu bar some time back and started using the Bookmarks Menu Button (the little star with an underline). With v89, the dropdown menu from this is huge. The fonts are a lot bigger than in v88, and for some reason, there are now two "Manage bookmarks" items, one at the top and one at the bottom. Is there any way, either official or through userChrome.css, to choose a small font? I already have a userChrome.css that I used to remove items from the old Bookmarks menu on the menu bar, but those don't apply to the BM Button.

I can't find a setting to force Firefox to always use the system printer dialog box. Anyone know how to fix this? It's enough to make me stop using the browser becasue thr Firefox dialog box sucks.

Until recently, the search bar that sits under the Firefox logo on my home page was a search bar - it provided nothing but suggestions / auto-completions as I typed, and the text appeared in and below the box.

The address bar, at the top of the screen, was where I typed addresses. They both did their respective jobs well.

Starting a few days ago, attempts to type in the search bar (under the Firefox logo) resulted in a mixture of suggestions, addresses, sites visited etc, appearing in and below the address bar (at the top of the page).

Is it no longer possible to have separate search and address bars? I've poked around in settings and while I've at least managed to turn the address bar into something like a search bar (no addresses or history), this seems like a second best solution - it was useful as an address bar, just as the search bar was useful as a search bar. I've lost some functionality.

Is the search bar on the home page now just a decoration? Can it be made to function again as such - offering nothing but suggestions/auto-completions? Is this an update, or a glitch in my install?

The new version 89.0.1 forces Google to search in the address bar. I dont like it. I cant read it. The results are not what I'm looking for. I want to retain old Home and ditto new Tabs with Google and Often-used 'favorites'. I cant disable it for Home or new tabs and I wish to keep my old home screen as it was and tuned to my taste.

Why the change without options to keep?

thanx

FF89 looks great BUT something's missing. I click the 3 bars to bring up the menu. There used to be a choice "Open file..." that would open a pull-down menu of the folder where I keep a special set of html files, something I used every day, but it's gone now. I can still open the Windows file explorer, and navigate to that folder, but that's a few extra steps. I found a place to customize the toolbar, and "open file..." was there in the overflow menu, and I tried to move it back but it didn't come. It's not under More Tools either.

Is there some way to reduce the white space / padding between bookmark and menu items in the new Proton interface introduced in Firefox 89? I don't have a touchscreen and all the extra white space just means more scrolling to navigate through my bookmarks.

The AskVG site has a 02-June-2021 article at https://www.askvg.com/tip-restore-old-classic-theme-and-ui-in-firefox-89-and-later-versions/ that explains how to disable all the new Proton interface changes in about:config, but is there one specific hidden preference / flag (e.g., browser.proton.toolbar.version) mentioned in that article that controls the spacing between bookmarks and menu items?

There is a also a companion article on AskVG titled https://www.askvg.com/tip-restore-compact-mode-density-option-in-firefox-customize-window/ with instructions on how to change two Density options (browser.compactmode.show and browser.uidensity) in about:config, but I have no idea if changing my density setting to "Compact" would actually decrease white space (padding) between bookmark and menu items.

After the update to 89.0 the Shortcuts have taken an 'visual upgrade' that makes all the images chosen for them half as small as they need to be because they need to have a 'cute little grey border' almost as big as the image between it and the corners of the square.

I have twenty four shortcuts, that I differentiate at a glance through the images without having to stop to read the text on each one and this stupid change is really roasting my mellows, I have taken a look and haven't found any option to revert it to the previous look, anyone knows any way to do it or do I have to install the previous firefox update and stop updating and give up security updates to save myself from this stupid change?

I just upgraded to Firefox 87 and noticed that I wasn't able to go back to the previous webpage by clicking on the backspace button like what I have done in the past if I'm not using a mouse on my laptop and had to click on the back button in the toolbar with the trackpad. I always used the original Firefox search as my home page; one simple little panel in the middle of the page with a quick and easy search feature. I loved it. The latest version of Firefox has ruined it. Now we are forced to search from the address bar. I hate, loathe, and despise doing a search from the address bar. It is an A-1 nightmare. After you type one letter, it stops registering what you type and throws up a ridiculously long list of the web pages you've visited. Type another letter, and you have to go through this mess again. It makes for an absurdly slow search and never actually gets you to what you're searching for. I wound up with search results that weren't even related to each other much less related to what I was searching for. After one day of use, I'm so frustrated with this feature that I'm opening Google to do the search.

How do we reset this new version of Firefox to only search from the Firefox homepage search box and not go anywhere near that address bar? Or do I have to uninstall the latest update to get Firefox to function properly again? Even if it's an add-on that forces the search to where it belongs...anything!

When I try and use the search bar in google to search anything, what ever I type appears in the address bar instead. Sometimes it trys to create a URL for what I am typing and fails.

I want to stop Firefox from using the address bar as the means of searching. I have read solutions online about changing things in about:config, however, this is not working fully.

It will only work it only works if I open up a new window. If I try and open up a tab it returns to trying to create a URL from my search requirements.

I have also tried the preference screen and nothing in there resolves the problem either.
