I just hit a bug in Firefox that was a real time eater for me.

Firefox was automatically redirecting to https for a website even when I typed in the full url http://192.168.138.210:80. It would always redirect even if there was no server listening at port 80! Even, if I added query parameters like ?q=123456, it still did it.

I had set up the web server to listen on port 80 at 192.168.138.210 and I could never get firefox to load the http page. I created a simple node http server and the same issue occurred. I finally realized that it was the browser was doing the https redirect. I disabled all extensions and it still occurred. I tried `Private Window` and the issue went away. Chrome was fine. I also tested `wget` and it was fine.

Once I realized the Firefox profile was the issue, I then cleared the cache in the browser and presto, problem went away.

I cannot repeat this error in Firefox so a Bug report is probably not warranted. In hindsight, I should have made a copy of the profile :(

Hope this information helps someone else avoid the pain of this and also a simple warning to those testing new web servers, don't assume any complex web browser is doing the right thing, use simple tools like wget or netcat to see whats going on at the lowest possible level before passing blame.

Here are a couple of goto *nix tests I have used:

Netcat trick to send a request to http://192.168.138.210:80/ % printf "GET / HTTP/1.0\r\n\r\n" | nc 192.168.138.210 80

Handy wget script that gives all the necessities of more complex calls like https for troubleshooting certificate resolution etc.: % curl -v -I --insecure https://google.com 2>&1 | egrep -v '^> |^< |^{|^}|^* T|^* AL|^ 0'

hey guys,

Can you guys list for me, where each one of the following types of data is in the cache location in win 10? the locations for me are as follows:

LOCAL DIR => C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\pbnbougs.default-1580885455126 ROAMING DIR => C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\pbnbougs.default-1580885455126

so....my question for you experts is....in which dirs are the following pieces of info?

=> passwords => cookies => history => temp files that are junk (for instance, image files for quicker future page loads, etc...)

attached are images of the 2 dirs I mentioned above. I'd like to know where these things are, whether they be in un-extensioned files, sqlLite DBs or anything else. thanks!

Hello! I've been using Firefox for years now, and just recently set up a dual boot system with win10 and kubuntu. I've never had this problem with Firefox before, and it's only a problem on win10. When I open Firefox, there's only blank white where a page would normally be. Trying to right click brings up nothing. I can open the menu, but things like options, add-ons, customize, etc. all do absolutely nothing when I click on them. When I click on the icons of my extensions in the upper bar, the extension interface is empty as well. Nothing changes when I try to load a page--Using the search bar causes a spike in my otherwise flat ethernet usage (I dont have any other processes running that use it while im testing this, but just to cover my bases I can access the internet without any issues on discord or other online applications.) The search bar does retain what I searched. Rather than becoming about:blank, it just becomes, for example, "https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=test" Other browsers work completely fine. I've tried doing a completely clean reinstall (deleting files in ProgramFiles, %appdata%, the Old Files folder that is created during an uninstall, and uninstalling using the apps and features menu.), using DISM to check for anything wrong in sys32, opening Firefox in safe mode, opening it as an administrator, disabling any firewall or antivirus i can find, and deleting my Firefox profiles. Nothing has changed anything at all. Please help! <3

Every so often, I lose all of my settings (ex. options, extensions, dashboard) after an upgrade. Just like today. I tried the recommendations but no joy. It will take me the better part of an hour to get everything back to working normally (for me, anyway), so I would like to know how to avoid this in the future. Thanks.

Recently, I have had a change in functions of my Mac using FireFox. MacOS 10.13.6, Firefox 81.0.1 I get emails from contractors with links to estimates/bids/proposals. There is a box to check to "View Details"

These emails are generated & sent automatically by their sw so there is a very long link to the proposal. But it's not accessible as a link & I get a "server not found" error. I can access these on my phone in ios12 and it ends up finding the initial link, generating and plugging in a new site and going directly to the proposal they tagged.

What am I missing in on my Mac with FF that prevents this?

Hi, i'm working with ssh lately, and have list with links like:

   ssh://exemple.com:port

All works fine if i use any port exept 22. Then port equal to 22 Firefox automatically removes it.

ssh://10.0.0.2:22/ => ssh://10.0.0.2/

I'm using Linux Mint with Remmina. Sadly but it cannot handle ssh links without port. I've tried to unblock port with:

network.security.ports.banned.override

But it did not help.
