With security concerns on the rise, our company has required that all software installed on their systems go through an approval process.

As part of that approval process, they want to know the following:

  • Is the software signed by a trusted third party?
  • Is the software downloaded from a US hosted facility?
  • Does the software perform call backs to the software maker?

Thank you!

Hello experts,

Hope you are all doing well.

On a corporate Thinkpad T480 running Windows 10 Version 1803 OS Build 17134.1006 Firefox is crashing daily. Chrome or IE doesn't have the same problem. Troubleshooting performed so far: 1. Tried running Firefox for a full day in Safe Mode: Still crashes - bp-d9e945ed-e475-4b92-a449-e3b620191002 2. Tried ESR version of Firefox - no improvement. 3. Re-installed Firefox a few times - no improvement. 4. Chrome, IE, Edge do not have the same problem but they are not Firefox : ) 5. Reviewed the Firefox crashes knowledge base and tried everything listed there. Last test was to use Firefox for a day in Safe Mode (wasn't easy but I coped with it)

Something i've noticed (not 100% sure about it) is that if I leave a private window open the crash is somehow more likely to occur.

So far my observations are that this is some sort of a memory leak-like problem as just before the crash tabs on the browser and some content on pages becomes blank when I hover over with the mouse. Task Manager shows very high Memory usage 1,5-2 GBs.

Any and all advises are welcomed. Thank you!

Regards, Dimitar

We use Firefox fairly extensively in our VDI environment and has become our organization's standard web browser. In a non-persistent VDI environment, on occasion we have users that experience the dreaded "Couldn't load XPCOM" popup error message. In my research this usually is attributed to a faulty/corrupt update. We are a VMware View shop using instant clones with what's called a "Writable Volume" which is, in essence, a file system filter that allows certain user data to be written to persistent storage and the rest is written to the non-persistent VM. Upon logout the persistent disk is detached and the non-persistent VM is removed/rebuilt.

We are using the ESR branch of Firefox with policies configured to disable automatic updating, so I'm not sure where Firefox is breaking. Is there anything I can do to assist? On top of this, it's more difficult to reproduce since I'm unable to causing it to error out myself.

Hello,

I'm using version 60.7.2esr in an enterprise context behind a proxy.

And I have the following issue : after some time using firefox, https://www.google.com becomes unreachable.

But this website is available from edge or chrome. All these other browsers are using the same enterprise proxy with the same configuration.

I checked the network tab : there is no even a header sent apparently, hinting there is an issue before even getting to send a header.

Hence I imagined it could be a firefox DNS cache issue.

I deactivated it by modifying the user.js as I cannot modify it in about:preferences user_pref("network.dns.disablePrefetch","true") user_pref("network.dnsCacheExpiration",0)

But that didn't change the issue.

Do you have any suggestion on how to find what is going on? or a possible culprit?

I manage a small office with a dozen users. We do an annual refresh of the PCs and so far I have manually managed configuring Firefox for each user. It takes a fair amount of time.

I add about a half dozen extensions, configure search providers and reconfigure the main tool bar (add remove icons). I have a bookmarks.json file I import to all users and I did, at least in the older 52- versions set up the the default new tab with favorites (icons) to the most relevant business sites. I believe that I can re-config some of the "top sites" functionality in about:config. I change other things in the config (This started today as learning how to config for session cookies) and want ALL users to start off with identical config and lower my effort

The only exception (I can think of) would be I would want to export their passwords and restore them back.

Can I do all this with building a profile and importing it to each user? How can I start with a clean profile (refresh Firefox?) How well do profiles survive version upgrades? Users will all be different. Does this paly in?

What can i NOT get from this and what am I not asking?

I used firefox to upload a 7z file into a website. Some time later I was reported the 7z file was returning CRC errors when decompressing. After downloading it from the website and comparing it against the original 7z (raw byte comparison) file I discovered a large section of the file, near the bottom, was replaced.

However the worst part is not that the file was corrupted but that the data inserted on the file contains user information. On thie section I found several strings matching all sorts of things:

  • URLs I have recently visited
  • Search bar history (searches I have recently done on google)
  • Login details saved on my firefox
  • part of pages I have recently visited

Is this a known issue? This is a big deal for me and I will stop using firefox until this is fixed.

I am using 60.0.1 (64-bit) over win8.1.

After installation of a web proxy/security agent - Cyren Web Security - at our organization, users are getting a misbehaviour of firefox.

Upon opening, the message "Safe Mode is a special mode of Firefox ..." appears and the buttons "Start in Safe Mode" and "Refresh Firefox" appears.

Choosing any of the above options results in the following: Firefox opens. Disappears momentarily after a few seconds. Re-opens, saying all the tabs have crashed. Disappears again momentarily after a few seconds. Re-opens, saying all the tabs have crashed. Goes on in a loop

Trying to kill the process from Task Manager. Firefox appears again, new process respawns and goes in the loop above. Operation (Task kill) must either be repeated a number of times (approx 10) or workstation restart so that firefox goes off.

We have sadly had to resort to Google Chrome in the meantime the issue is under investigation. Affected versions vary from 52 to 60.01 (latest)

I have tried to deploy Firefox ESR 52.8.0 to resolve the matter. This resolved the matter for some users. For others, issue persists on Firefox ESR as well.

PLease help.
