Hi evangelinejones, There are two things you can do, change the password so the other device cannot successfully sync anymore, stop using the account and move the profile to a new one.

For the later: on your primary device:

1. goto options > sync
2. then on the manage account drop down, click reset sync then choose "replace all other devices with this computer's data"
3. after reconnect all devices

I hope this helps. There should be a better recovery coming in the next sync.

Thanks for your help. I have never set up a Firefox Sync account...does the fact that it is there mean that my computer is linked to another device? Or is it normal for it to be linked to the airport for wireless usage? If I do not personally have an account, how do I disable the connection? I don't see an option to Reset Sync when I go under Sync -- I just to to "I have an account" and "Sync options" and all of the data is there.

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

Note that Sync Options shows the name of your computer as being the currently used device.

Its possible that it is, but please attach a screenshot at cor-el asks. An image of your sync options and the two options you are presented with.

You can remove the account under about:accounts, manage account.

Thanks again for all your help. So when I originally clicked on Firefox Sync, the data in the third screenshot (Screenshot 2) was what came up. I erased it, but the same data still exists and has moved under "Options."

On the first screenshot, you can see the two options I am now given.

On the second, after choosing "Set up Firefox Sync," and "I have an Account," this is what the screen looks like.

On the third, when I choose "Sync Options," this is what appears. The address given is the Mac Address for my airport.

Thanks again, any advice appreciated. It's possible that someone has gone into my computer and synced it to their personal device, and I just want to know if that could be what is happening and if so, how to best remove it.

Finally, it appears that someone, possibly that same person following discussion of the issue, has changed "unknown0019e3d6ba6f" to read "Rachel-Joness MacBook." If so, does changing the name actually make any difference to what it is synced to? Does it make any difference in terms of unsyncing an additional device?

The same that is shown in the third screenshot is by default your Windows user account and the name of the computer as defined in Control Panel > System.
Changing the name in the Sync set up won't make a difference for other devices as this name only identifies a device by its name and not what to sync.
If you haven't set up sync on this device or on another device and thus aren't using it then there won't be any other devices to sync data to.

When you said airport, you did not mean a computer at the airport. I apologize for the confusion. After rereading the thread the unknown0xxx device is another device not Rachel-Jones Macbook, these are separate devices. That screenshot #3 says that the Macbook Firefox profile is merging with the second device called unknown. (Though I may have confused this more)

No problem, it is confusing for me as well. So if I understand you correctly, there would have to be a second device linked somehow to my browser, or else there would be no data present under Firefox Sync?

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

• Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Hi evangelinejones, No, if another device entered that code on their device (say your second device) then they would sync your second device successfully. There is data in the macbook because that is where you set up the account. If the second device is attached, there is no way of knowing. So you have to make a copy of your profile folder and set up a new account to be sure. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

There can only be data on the Sync server if you have set up a Sync account and synced your data to the Sync server, so if you have never done this then there is no data on the Sync server.

Note that you will always see the user name of your Windows account and the name of the computer in the Sync Options window.
That is normal and you do not need to worry about this as that is how it works.

I don't know about the Mac address. I've never seen them on Windows and on Linux and don't know if they would show on Mac if they aren't part of the computer name.
