Input language is not the same as in language bar

Language bar settings work fine in other programmes, inc. Thunderbird, but have gone haywire in FireFox. I've checked & reset & rebooted etc., no change. Takes 5 mins to write 2 phrases!

What language (keyboard layout) do you get in Firefox?

How many keyboard layouts do you have installed?

Note that you might be switching the layout accidentally by opening a menu via a Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift shortcut combination depending on how the shortcut to cycle the keyboard layout is set.
