Neither have instructions, but do have support links.

The CacheViewer2 extension has an entry in the Tools menu.

Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden Menu bar.

CacheViewer extension also has an entry in my Tools menu, but I don't know how to make it do anything. I double clicked entry to no avail. I feel silly, but just how do I "rub Aladin's lamp" to view my cache content?

The CacheViewer2 extension works for me.

Do you see the disk cache on the about:cache page?

Note that Firefox disables the disk cache if you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cache.

OK, I disabled "clear history when firefox closes"; surfed a bit; typed in about:cache; and see I have 567 entries on my Disc Cache Device. NOW how do I use CacheViewer to search and sort my cache files?

What kind of data are you looking for?

You can click a column header to change the sort order (click a second time to reverse the order).

I purchased a book from Amazon/Kindle several days ago and want to read it on my PC. Amazon & Kindle insist I download a Kindle application onto my PC so I can access the book I've already purchased, which I don't want to do. I've discovered I can use my Firefox browser and a Kindle Cloud Reader to read my book. It allowed me the option of downloading my book and I had to okay and expansion of the size of my browser cache. I did that. Next, I wanted to retrieve the book I had already purchased from my own computer which led me to learn about--about:cache.

To date I have not found the columns (of the about:cache) to be active. In other words I have tried clicking on the headers to sort files by size but it simply doesn't work. Enter stage left--CacheViewer. I've attached a screenshot their description of this add-on. It claims to allow me to organize my cache files and even show a preview picture of a particular file if I click on it.

This I have not been able to accomplish despite my best efforts over the last several hours.

I thought I was onto something you mentioned my disk cache would disappear if I had the, "clear history upon Firefox closing" box checked. I tried that but achieved the same non-results. Upon further thought, CacheViewer should probably let me view any of my cache entries not just the ones on my disk cache. But so far nothing.

Now this is come down to a battle between me versus CacheViewer. I could care less about the book even though I've paid for it and it exists somewhere on my computer. I want to learn how to use add-ons in general and I want to learn how to use CacheViewer in particular.

I don't know if this add-on is supposed to kick in automatically when I activate about:cache; if I should be in file Explorer; or if I should be doing something special in Firefox. I frankly just can't figure it out and don't know if it somehow working in front of my face and I just don't recognize it.

What I know for certain is that I have not done anything that yields a manageable more searchable/sortable list of cache files like CacheViewer seems to say I should be able to do.

Sounds that this data is not in the disk cache, but in offline storage.

You should be able to see this if you are on that website and open "Tools > Page Info > Permissions".
That should have a section that shows the amount of data stored in the offline cache under the Maintain Offline Storage section.

• Click the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar
• Click "More Information" to open the "Page Info > Security" window

Go to the Permissions tab of the Page Info window and scroll down.

This data is stored in the IndexedDB storage and not in the regular disk cache.

It is in thr same location as the disk cache, so you can got to the location as shown on the about:cache page and go back one level, i.e. remove the trailing Cache and go to the OfflineCache folder.

I'd like to go back to my original problem; and that was to try to get results out of my Firefox browser cache using CacheViewer. I think that add-on will be useful if I can figure out how to get it to work.

With the CacheViewer add-on installed, to the results displayed by about:cache automatically display in a more usable form? Do I have to do anything specifically with this add-on to be able to sort/search cache entries?

I apologize for not being able to ask this question more clearly; but I do appreciate your efforts.

If you don't get an answer here and you have problems using the extension, I would contact the CacheViewer developer for help using it and/or post a review on the add-on page with your feedback.

Thank you for your reply. I don't think it's possible for me to overstate how little I know about what an add-on is supposed to do or how to get it to do it.

Do I go into my add-on manager and double-click on CacheViewer? That doesn't do anything. I know if I have a basketball in my hand I'm supposed to try to put it through the basket. I literally don't know where to begin. I have CacheViewer installed. It shows up in my add-on manager.

I would like to get to the GUI represented in the CacheViewer screenshot but please tell me how to use this add-on. I don't think I'm having problems with this extension I just need to know how to use it.

How to use CacheViewer 0.7.6

In your address bar type in about:cache Hit enter key. Click list entries on the cache you're interested in. Tap F10 to display temporary toolbar. Click on tools. In Firefox 26.0 using CacheViewer 0.7.6 click on Web Developer and a drop-down menu will appear. Near the bottom of the drop-down menu I found CacheViewer. Click on it. CacheViewer GUI appears and cache entries are searchable and sortable.

Just like the maker claims. Only he didn't include any instructions. I doubt that anyone out there has struggled with this add-on or any other as much as I have. More power to you.
