Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back!

Maybe flash player for windows isnt compatible with the mac retina display? Have you tried safe mode?

Thank you, both guys.

This actually doesn't answer my question...

Windows 8 comes with a version of security essentials running as default.

The flash player is running without any issues, the problem is that the resolution is "too big", in a laptop screen, making things look very small. Running it on safe mode does not change this.

Using safari on OSx, things are scaled up, making everything readable, but on windows, nothing seems to be "retina ready"...

Do you have a gfx.hidpi.enabled pref on the about:config page?

Thanks cor-el,

No, I don't. I couldn't find the gfx.hidpi.enabled preference on the abouth:config page. How can I add it?

That's a screen shot comparing the display in internet explorer and firefox.

Thanks, cor-el, but this issue is with the windows version of firefox.

Not sure if it applies to flash, but you can make layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 1.0 instead of -1.0

  • Type about:config into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
  • If the warning This might void your warranty appears, click I'll be careful, I promise.
  • Search for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

Fx22layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

  • Double-click on layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to modify its value. The default is -1.0 in Firefox 22 and above. Change it to 1.0 to make it work like in previous Firefox versions.

Thanks, Waka_flocka_flame,

This doesn't fix it, actually made EVERYTHING on the browser tiny. I tested also different values: 1.0; 2.0; -2.0...

It seems that it doesn't apply to flash.

I have no idea, but it seems to be the adobe flash player not respecting the hidpi display.
