Why do I have to left-click on the FF logo on the Add-On bar to view a particular website?

All of a sudden in the past few days, when I try to load my homepage (http://news.cincinnati.com/), it appears to load but nothing is shown until I click on the FF logo on the Add-on bar at the bottom and then the page is displayed with the Windows Explorer logo beside the page name on the tab. Nothing has changed with the page, my PC or any other software. Three other pages I load all the time in 3 other tabs load as before.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Will I lose my Add-ons or do I have to download and install them again?

Yes, you'll have to reinstall any add-ons, but the chances are one of them is causing the problem anyway.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

cor-el,

It does not work in Safe Mode. What next?

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (MAC)

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

cor-el,

Nothing in your above suggestions changed anything. The only way I can see this page is by left-clicking the FF orange logo on the Add-on Toolbar.

Should I reinstall a fresh copy of FF?

Did you try to reset Firefox or create a new profile?

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

See:

You can also try to reset Firefox:

It appears that either Quicktime Plugin 7.7.2.0 or Shockwave Flash Plugin 11.4.402.278 are causing this problem for me. Once I disabled them in my current profile, my problem went away. Will someone at Mozilla check this out with Apple and whoever writes Shockwave? Others may have the same problem.

jbacinti

Apparently not Shockwave as I had to enable it to see a video on Yahoo and my other site is still visible.
