Firefox crashes every time I open it. It loads the page that says "Well this is embarrassing..." and before I can click onto any other link it completely crashes. I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the newest version of firefox and I've also tried updating my ad-ons. This is extremely annoying, please help!

Is your Gmail/Hotmail inbox included in one or more of the tabs that are open while it crashes? There does seem to be some major stack overflow issue with the loading of these pages after being signed in to access mail.

Nope. It crashed one day and now every time I try to open it, the "Well this is embarrassing..." window opens (I think I may have been on weather.com and facebook when it crashed originally) and before I can do anything else it crashes again. Any other ideas? Its getting quite annoying

I've already tried that. I've updated all add-ons and I've tried starting it in safe mode. Still crashing

-> Uninstall Firefox from your computer - Uninstall your current Firefox

  • DO NOT SELECT TO REMOVE USER DATA AND SETTINGS
  • Restart your system

-> Download latest Firefox version from one of these links using some other Web Browser:

-> Installing Firefox

Check and tell if its working.

Just tried uninstalling. Then reinstalling again. Same issue. : /

Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

-> Basic Troubleshooting - Make a New Profile

IF that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.

-> Recovering important data from an old profile

Check and tell if its working.

When I open Terminal to try to create a new profile is gives me an error that says firefox-bin closed unexpectedly

-> Configuring Firewalls

Check that your Security softwares are not interfering with Firefox. Try Disabling them and then start Firefox.

Check and tell if its working.

Creating a new profile has already suggested, but some users find this method easier, if it works.

Glancing at your crash ID and its report I would hazard a guess that you are getting memory problems, and knowing you are mentioning the problems on restoring the session I suggest as a first step you try to sort that out. NOTE You are likely to loose data, i.e. you will loose the tabs from previous sessions by trying this, but that may be acceptable as the alternative seems to be the browser not starting up without crashing.

  1. Not to sure about the Mac menu but I think fastest method of finding the profile folders will be
    • Go to about:config by keying that into the location bar
    • or use Help -> Troubleshooting information
    • now use the option [open Containing Folder]
  2. Once in the Profile Folder/Path look for and delete the files (or rename if you wish to play safe and try to use the tabs again - maybe after editing the file)
    • sessionstore.js and
    • related files sessionstore.bak and sessinstoreNN.js where N is a number

If crashes prevent you, from opening the profile the easy way
then you need to locate it manually.

This should stop you getting nested lists of restart tabs, it should prevent the messages about restore, and may even solve the crash issue.

If you have other recent crash ID s they may be informative, and if firefox is crashing before you are able to key in about:crashes see

Note going to about:memory by keying that in to the location bar may give information that is useful when having memory problems.
