How do I open (convert) my Publisher file in Kompozer?

My web-site when opened with Firefox does not display with the same (correct) formatting as in IE 8. Can you please tell me where the problem might lie? I created using MS Publisher. The site looks very professional in IE8 but rather amatueurish in Firefox

Received reply that MS Publisher is not really sited to create web pages becuase it usually generates VML code that only works in IE and not in other browser like Firefox and that can verify that by looking at the page source (View > Page Source). Better off using an editor that generates W3C compliant HTML code. Can look at KompoZer which I installed but how do I open my web-site for editing?

I am not a KompoZer user. But I can assist you. Almost every software works in the same way when it comes to menu bar functions. So it should be File > Open.

If it's not, nobody can help until you provide me screenshots of each and every menu bar item.

EDIT: Also these are Mozilla Firefox forums. Not KompoZer forums. So you have very less chances of support.

Thanks for your reply. Web design is not one of my specialities but I have understood what was said about VML coding. In fact when checking the page source I see numerous references to it. Probably the easiest way to is to give you the url which is www.oem-consult.com and perhaps you can suggest a wya to solve the problem without having to completely redo the site. I have looked at KompoZer but it doesn; turn me on!! Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks for your help. Jeffrey

See if Blue Griffon appeals to you more than Kompozer does.

Quite honestly, your main webpage looks the same in Firefox 5.0 as it does in IE8 on my WinXP PC, but the scrolling marquee doesn't work in Firefox 3.6. After looking at your source code and viewing the Error Console in Firefox 5.0, I think it might be easier to just re-do your web pages from scratch rather than trying to convert "garbage" into something that is bit more compatible with standards, and them have to manually fix the stuff than can't be converted automatically by a standards compliant browser.

I created some web pages back in 2004 - 2006 by hand coding in a text editor, and drove myself nuts trying to make those pages W3C compatible in early 2007 by hand. Then I tried running those pages thru an early version of what later became Kompozer, by the 2nd simple page I decided to not waste my time. As long as they displayed properly in Firefox, that is all I really needed, because the content of those pages all related to Firefox and nothing else.

Either that, or convince the person who originally created your website to do it properly this time.

Thanks very much for the time and trouble to reply. I use both IE8 and Firefox 5.0 and the bullet formatting on pages 1,3 and 4 (both English and Italian versions) are not the same in Firefox. I think I am resigned to the fact that it would be better to redo from scratch using anothe another web editing program as I will be adding pages and objects. Thanks for the tip on bluegriffon. I will certainly take a look at his. BTW. Do you know Serif WebPlusX5 and Dreamweaver? I use the Serif PagePlusX4 and find them to be quite satisfactory for my needs. Thanks again.

I have spent way too much money on software for my business over the last 27 years, and now that I am retired I use only free open source software, which I find to work better to begin with and when there's a bug in it, it seems to get fixed faster and much better than the $20, 000 or so worth of software I purchased over the years.

Serif WebPlusX5 I have never heard of before. As for Dreamweaver 5.5, for $399 I would expect it to give me a "happy ending" after each page was completed.

Thank you again. Your comments are really most appreciated. I have just installed (very easily) Blue Griffon and the first question which kind of document stumps me a tad. I have read that XHTML5 is the way to go because it is more forgiving and allows for checking of code errors. Correct? You have my e-mail address from my web-site if you prefer to comminciate via this. I am in Toronto, Canada. Where are you located? Jeffrey
