Please do the following.

  1. Click Help | Restart with Add-ons disabled.

  2. In the menu which appears, checkmark the option called "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults"

  3. Click the button called "Make Changes and Restart".

After Firefox restarts, please visit the Plugins Check page and update where necessary. Outdated plugins expose your system to security vulnerabilities.

Did as suggested, did not fix problem. Symptom is that hotmail does not open mail items (like javascript is not executing). Other symptom - javascript page formatting does not execute. I'm baffaloed.

Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Still doesn't work. Is there a way to go from 5 to 4?

Unfortunately not. Mozilla has removed v4.0.x altogether now, so the next one down is v3.6.19 which can be downloaded from here: Download Firefox v3.6.19

Before you go that route though, can you try right clicking a link and then choose "Open link in new tab" to see if it makes any difference.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
