I can't believe this crap. We just got the update from Adobe to make the plugin work with FireFox 4, and now Mozilla updates FireFox again and breaks the plugin again.

This isn't all Adobe's fault. What I want to know is what the hell Mozilla is changing in FireFox that is causing the Create PDF plugin to break while all my other plugin's are fine. I understand that it probably has to do with the way FireFox renders pages, but damnit maybe Mozilla should show some more concern with backward compatibility.

Now we'll have to wait another 3-6 months for the next Adobe update cycle to fix this. In the mean time i'll stick to FireFox 4

There is a work around that I prefer anyway.....Just click on print and choose the Adobe printer and it creates a pdf of the page on display..........

Now if only "Pinger" would update their add-on............

Using the pdf printer has the disadvantage that the resulting pdf does not preserve the hyperlinks from the web page in a form where they can simply be clicked on to bring up whatever web page they refer to.

A workaround that does produce the same results as Create PDF 1.1 is to simply use Save Page As to save the web page on the desktop, then right click on the file and choose "Convert to Adobe PDF" from the context menu outside of Firefox to produce the desired pdf, and then of course delete the html file.

The addon is compatible with a quick workaround.

change the 4 to a 5 or above and save the document. If you get an access denied message save the file to your desktop and then copy it over the original file.

You will need Firefox closed while you perform this.

@sking2004 You got my hopes up. Doing your change does allow the plug-in button to appear on the UI, but if you go and try to convert anything to pdf nothing happens. I can't even get the "Preferences..." to pop anything up. As far as I can tell the plug-in is still inherently incompatible.

Well you can still go into Adobe Acrobat Pro X and do "Shift+Ctrl+O" and that will bring up the create pdf from web site or link... its not like your out of the loop here you just copy the link up top from the address bar and paste it into that program... though it is just another inconvenience.

The problem still left with that workaround is that "create pdf from website" inside Acrobat X won't work if the webpage happens to require a log in for access, for example if you want to save a pdf of a page from an online encyclopedia that you paid to subscribe to.

One workaround for that is to switch briefly from Firefox to Internet Explorer. There is a Firefox addon - IETab Plus - that allows you to do that in one click to quickly get the same webpage on display, ready to use Create PDF from there, when you realize you want a pdf of a particular page. It's still not as good as having CreatePDF work in Firefox, but it works.

blame it on mozilla, every time they launches a new update, u will some add-on incompatible.

With FF6 due for release on 16 August, more fun and games are on the cards, so don't hold your breath on the PDF plugin working for too long! ;-)

your advice was very helpful (I run Acrobat X and Firefox 5.0.1 on a 64-bit Win 7 PC) but I had to overcome two more problems:

1- although I am the administrator of my PC. I had to give the permission to modify install.rdf to my user's account (thru the properties dialog); otherwise I couldn't save the modified file

2-after this move, it still didn't work, although I had closed firefox during the change (but restored the last session). But after restarting the computer, it worked.

So thank you, but it's a shame so many add-ons don't work when firefox releases a new version. I had a similar problem with McAfee SiteAdvisor (I had to re-download a new version from McAfee).

By the way, on an older PC, Adobe Acrobat 8 still works with Firefox 5.0

@patmangou Are you sure you're actually able to convert to PDF? I've tried the fix (including the restart, but also restoring last session) and all that happens for me is the button reappears in the UI, but clicking any of the options doesn't do anything. It will ask me where to save the file but afterward nothing launches.

I'm using the same specs as you (FireFox 5.0 on Win 7 64-bit).

TurboChan: Actually it's hard for me to give you solution; w/o our friend's help, I would never had the idea to look into that file and just change the 4 into a 5. I didn't think there could be have been such a simple fix.

Personnally I don't have any "Acrobat" button on my Firefox UI (as I have on the MS Office programs, eg). I always use CTRL-P to print a web page or create a PDF file. I have just to choose my printer in the list (actually Acrobat is my default printer, as I use it intensively to save web pages).

Maybe you could check after closing Firefox if it's still running in the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL -but I guess you know that shortcut!-). It happens sometimes, and doesn't prevent you from restoring the last session.

Mozilla already proposes to update to Firefox 6 and says CreatePDF is not supported. I don't know if the same fix will work. For the time being I will stick to Firefox 5.

Has anybody tried sking2004's fix with Firefox 6?

@patmangou I tried sking2004's fix on two computers for both Firefox 5.0 and Firefox 6.0. It didn't really work for either version of Firefox.

It caused the icon for making a pdf to appear on the firefox user interface, and when I clicked on it to produce a pdf, it got as far as prompting for the pdf filename and for where to store it. But when I submitted that info it did nothing further and no pdf was produced.

Steve_D: as I said before I don't have any PDF button on my Firefox 5 UI. I don't know why; maybe I could add it. Anyway, I always use CTRL-P (or Print in the File menu) and it works. On some pages it didn't work, but Infix PDF Editor (unlimited free trial if you accept a watermark in a corner -painstakingly removable w/ Acrobat-) works. Also it worked w/ Acrobat on the same page if I placed the cursor differently on the page. Try CTRL-P w/ this page; it worked w/ me.

Good news for now: Adobe finally released their quarterly update which includes a fix to the plugin. It now works for FireFox 6!

Now when Sep 27th rolls around, Mozilla and their glorious rapid release plan will put out FireFox 7, once again breaking our plugins. Then we'll have to wait another 3 months for Adobe to catch up with their quarterly release...

TurboChan: Things look stranger every day! I got the Adobe update maybe 1 week ago and the Firefox 6.02 update. It changed nothing: the install.rdf file I had modified was left unchanged and I still was able to create a pdf file thru the File-Print menu. Then suddenly, w/o any update or change I was aware of, it ceased to work: an "unknown error" message appeared as I try to "print" a web page in Adobe. However it works fine w/ the "convert to pdf" button on the Firefox toolbar. Let's just hope it will continue to work one way or another, unless somebody here has a solution

Well the dreaded day is here. FireFox 7 is out. Anyone try to see if it breaks the plugin again? I fear I already know the answer...
