When I click on a Web address with a PDF file name, Firefox creates a new tab but does not open the PDF file.

When I receive an e-mail with a reference to a PDF file, I click on the reference to the file. Firefox then creates a new tab but does not open the PDF file. I have gone to Preferences/Applications/PDF and set it to Adobe Reader. I have gone to Tools/PDF-Download Options and set options to Open PDF using Adobe Reader in a new tab. I did not have this problem with Firefox 3.
