Ok, random tabs open in Firefox often enough to really get annoying. I don't want to switch back to IE (ew), but I will if I can't fix this. Normally, it's a Google ad that opens, but today, a site for adult products opened. I have a 13 yr. old daughter who does NOT need to see this.

Here's what I've done to try to correct this problem so far...

-I've un-installed and re-installed Firefox at leas 4 times -I've run Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, Ad-Ware, AVG scans and Super Anti Sypware...multiple times -I've deleted and replaced the dll file WS2_2.dll with a new one -I've re-configured add-ons according to another support site.

Anyone got any better ideas? I really don't want to go back to IE! Please help!!

So far, No, CJ...I'm very frusterated. I've run adware, Malware Bytes, I've installed and run various virus scans and nothing has been has worked. Are you having the same problem?

Ok, so 52 people have this problem, but there's no one who knows how to fix it? Don't these problems get reported to the Mozilla support team? Does ANYONE know why this is happening?

Hi Guys, I'm not actually from Mozilla Firefox, but I've had this problem before, and I've solved it with the help from another website.

What you need to do is download a programme called "tdsskiller" from here: http://www.geekpolice.net/t23369-computer-infected scroll down the page and you should see a link. (I know the article itself seems irrelevant to your problem, but trust me, the programme they recommend works on this virus too.) It's only 1.3MB or so, so it doesn't take up huge amounts of space either! :)

I can safely say that it is COMPLETELY safe to download this from geekpolice.net, as this website is a free website which helps people with viruses on their computer. If you ever have another problem with anything to do with computers, go and have a look on geekpolice.net, they should have something that might help you.

Before anyone wonders why I am singing its praises so much, no I am not advertising them for any personal gain, but they have helped me get rid of some pretty nasty viruses on my computer before, so I am very grateful to them :)

SO, anyway, after you've downloaded the tdsskiller, you should run it, and it may find some infected files, in which case let it repair them. After rebooting your computer, the annoying opening tab thing should be gone!

I hope this works for anyone who's stuck :) If it doesn't, I'm really sorry, but it has definately worked for me!

Good luck! Yashmeee :)

Thanks to those who have posted suggestions. However, I was able to finally resolve this problem. I downloaded tdsskiller.exe (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/TDSSKiller.shtml). One scan and it fixed the problem. It was crazy fast and affective!

Thanks again!

It may be worth bearing in mind firefox will sometimes have valid reasons for connecting unexpectedly, and in some cases that may result in a tab or window opening. How to stop Firefox from making automatic connections

Edit, note also one user says the problem is resolved by removing the facebook toolbar: ( see /756737#answer-232632 ) are others finding that works ?

The solution is, use several different anti-spy wear. I did and I also had a look at my servers auto dial address, I re set it to all Zeros and saved it. Deleted all the cookies and a program that was meant to be a customer shopping search aid that had downloaded itself and hijacked my server settings and changed the dial address. Restarted the internet and router and found I had got back control.

i have a similar problem with that. It don't open a new tab it just changes the window im on to a new tab. I will be on facebook and all of a sudden the window changes to a plain window with the search bar and the tab reads New tab. i can click the back arrow and it will take me back to where i was at but if im in a game and it does it, i have to start all over and i lose any game play that i had done.

Same issue here. Certain pages (such as this local news http://www.whsv.com/) open and then pop open a second "facebook" related tab. It is super annoying!

I only had this problem with Facebook. The problem was resolved by disabling the Facebook toolbar. Check for toolbars or other page specific add-on issues.

I too, had the problem with Facebook. I am on a mac. I uninstalled the FB toolbar and it stopped.
