Firefox wants me to upgrade Adobe. However, there's a missing plug-in; something about xpi files. Is there a free fix to this problem? The ones I saw cost $.
When Firefox upgraded, it said I needed to install a newer version of Adobe. When I went to do that, I got a message that a plug-in was missing; something that needed to work with an xpi file. When I click on the link for that, it brought up some websites where you download the software, but it doesn't tell you how much it costs (only that you are purchasing the software).
It seemed that the xpi file plug-in was only because I'm using Firefox.

You can find the links to download the Flash plugin for Windows at the bottom of this page:
Adobe - Common Flash Player download and installation issues (Windows): http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/support/index.html
Go to: 3. Download Adobe Flash Player : Flash_Player_10_Plugin (All other Windows browsers)
Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.
- Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53
- Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 10.2
- Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_19 for Mozilla browsers
Update the Java plugin to the latest version.

Update the Flash plugin to the latest version.
Update the Adobe Reader plugin to the latest version.
Those were good suggestions; thanks. I'm up-to-date with all but Adobe now. I'm still having the original problem, which I'm able to describe better now. Windows can't open the gp.xpi file, which I need to upgrade Adobe. I don't know what program to tell it to open with, and when I follow the help links, I wind up at those commercial sites where I can't tell how much their product costs. I'm thinking there should be a free way to open the gp.xpi file.
Thanks.
File > Open File in Firefox or drag that XPI file into the Firefox window
But you don't need that Adobe updater extension now that you have the current version of Adobe installed. Plus that extension causes problems for some users and has to be disabled anyways. Adobe needs to test their stuff a little bit better.
Oh, I thought I only updated Flash Player and Java, and Adobe Reader remained with an older version. I guess that's Ok though, if that extension causes problems. Thanks for the info.
No, not OK! There are big security holes in the last couple of versions. My favorite place to get the latest without the extra bullyware adobe tries to stick you with is Filehippo. Install both so IE is not vulnerable too.
