where can I find the icon that allows me to delete whatever is on and returns me to a blank page?

Any of the icons here? Open the application menu (with the three horizontal lines) on the very top right -> More tools -> Customize toolbar...

Is it the home icon? You can drag it onto your toolbar via the method mentioned above.
