Too much padding to sensibly use Firefox when snapped to half of screen

When I snap Firefox to one side of the screen to fill half my monitor, I'm presented with so much padding that there is in fact more screen estate reserved for nothing than there is for tabs. Is this supposed to be normal behavior? I'm using a 4K laptop monitor with 300% scaling, which gave me no wasted space issues in the past.
