I work at a small company I had to do a windows recover on a users laptop. He logged back in to firefox which had all of his passwords saved and now none of them are populating is there anyway to get them back? They are vital to his job.

Yes I did a Windows Restore to last working image. I had to redownload firefox we had to reset his account password for firefox and were able to get in, however he lost all of his saved passwords and was not able to resync them. I know that previous versions of windows you could use shadowcopy but he is on windows 11 and I know that the old password is encrypted and stored on Mozilla's server but I was just wondeing if there was any possible work around to get his passwords back

He's still on the same computer but before the restore firefox was not opening after the user updated windows on his own. I ran a repair uninstalled then reinstalled and all of his other applications were not opening as well even after he had rebooted multiple times but I will let him know thanks for the condescending support.

Hi

Thank you for your question about the Firefox Sync service.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data.

Have you tried ShadowExplorer ? I suggest the portable version.

Resetting the password for the Firefox Account will remove all data stored on the Sync server because this password is used to encrypt your data before it is uploaded to the Sync server and only this password or a possible recovery key can decrypt this data.
