Hello, I have been using Firefox as my main browser for more than a decade. One could say i am some Mozilla fanboy, having convinced many of my friends and relatives to use Firefox instead of any chrome based options (Which there are to many these days). It struck me today, as i was reworking some workflow elements in many programs i use daily, that it is impossible to change any key binding in Firefox anymore. I know it has been a while now, and i searched all over the web for an answer or a solution, but at this point it is clear that other than going in the code and recompiling Firefox manually, it is not possible. I stumbled upon the (only) extension that allows to change some shortcuts, but the two that i wanted to change are impossible to configure from it, being disabling only f12 as i would use it for other things but i do not want to lose the dev console and also ctrl+L to open the address bar, it is quite inconvenient and would much prefer to use ctrl+spacebar as it matches many other bindings i am using with other software. There have been many other features that were changed in the recent years that made me start to look for an alternative, as i see features melting away almost as quickly as the user base of the product.

I do understand that one person's problem is not going to change the way a big piece of software is working, but i am wondering, why are the users losing such features as basic as customizing key bindings in a piece of software that used to be so incredibly customizable in the past? Why is the only viable option to anything chrome based losing it's edge over the competition? Is Firefox v150 be based on the chromium engine or will it die before?

Thank you in advance, and no, i don't need the link to the shortcut page, i already have it.

Even if Firefox was entirely based on chromium would not prevent changing keybindings, it is possible to do so in the proprietary browser Vivaldi and the open source web browser Min. That does not answer the question.

1. Head over to the Firefox add-ons website and search for the Shortkeys add-on. 2. Click on the add-on and in the following webpage, click on the Add to Firefox button. 3.Then click on Add in the pop-up to install the Shortkeys add-on in your browser. 4.Once the add-on is successfully installed, click on the Firefox menu button and select the Add-ons option from the drop-down menu. 5.Select the Shortkeys add-on in the following page and scroll down to the Edit shortcuts section to add a new keyboard shortcut. Then enter a keyboard shortcut in the text box under the New keyboard shortcut option. 6.Click on the text box under the Behavior option and select your desired behavior from the pop-up menu. 7.Once that’s done, the clock on the Label option to give your shortcut a name. This step is optional, so you can skip it if you don’t plan on adding too many new keyboard shortcuts. 8. Click on the Activation Settings option and then check the box next to the Active while in form fields setting. 9.After you’ve customized the shortcut to your requirement, just scroll down and click on the Save button to save the new shortcut. 10.Once the new shortcut is saved, just reload all tabs in Firefox to start using it.

To customize you can try the firefox add on

@ tanujasri17 No need to spam, and as i have already said, this extension does not allow me to change the bindings i would like to change. It seems bizarre to me that the only way to change only some keybindings is trough an unofficial add-on and even then it would not work on Firefox's settings pages. Also your answer still does not answer my question. I understand that i cannot change the bindings and it is a shame. With the more recent versions of Firefox, i am starting to look for other options. It is insane to think that i've made custom css to completely change the way it looks, customize the visual workflow, but i cannot adapt the bindings to my liking, i cannot change something that used to be there, and is available in other browsers.

Thank you for the information, that is pretty much the only answer that gave me some kind of solution for the keybinding issue. I'll have to work a bit on it as i am not so familiar with javascript, and i think regular users should really not have to go trough such processes to be able to change keybindings in a web browser, or any program really.
