bookmarks split

First off, I'm kind of a nincompute. So, simply, my bookmarks always separate somewhere in the middle of the list. Each section is alphabetically arranged.

But why does this happen? I choose to sort by alphabet, so I should have one list with all the A's in one place, etc., instead of two lists.
I never chose to divide the list, and i can't figure out how the bookmark genie picks what goes where.

Can you post a screenshot showing this? Note: I found that a separator stops such sorting at its location.

Thank you!

Sorting is done separately between separators, so my first guess is that there is a separator in the middle of the list. It may be easier to spot in the Library window (Ctrl+Shift+B). In the Library, choose the relevant category in the left panel (i.e., Bookmarks Toolbar, Bookmarks Menu, Other Bookmarks) to show the list on the right side.
