The oddness is occurring on both my Linux and Windows machines. I think something was added/changed and is syncing back and forth. LMK what you would like from me to troubleshoot this.

See whether it happens in safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode A likely culprit is hardware acceleration so try switching that off (beginning with the only setting under 'Performance' on the 'General' page in Options).
