Dear Mozilla, please implement an "Open-Tab-Next-To-Current"-functionality

Dear Mozilla, please implement an "Open-Tab-Next-To-Current"-functionality. A bit better than in the Addon "Open Tab Next To Current". Because the newly created tab opens at the end and "runs" back to the place i want it.

i really want that feature. since so many years, mozilla team has done a great job but didn't implement an option or enable and disable opening tabs next to current.

Does it work if you set both these prefs to true on the about:config page ?

  • browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent = true
  • browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent = true

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

yes setting browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent = true solves the problem but i want it as a selectable option in the settings menu.

(actually i am impressed, i tried browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent = true versions before firefox 86.0 in 64-bit and it never worked, so i had to use the open-tab-next-to-current-addon and i was really thankful to the developer. i tested after the browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent = true the standard tab opening procedures like opening a new tab with ctrl+t or opening a tab-folder with lots of tabs and it really opened them just the way i like it.

the browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent = false was left false and before i switched browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent from false to true, i deactivated the open-tab-next-to-current-addon and restarted firefox with about:restartrequired

i am happy now that i can delete the open-tab-next-to-current-addon but i really want this as an option the in the settings menu and set on default)

i really really switched only browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent from false to true. nothing more. i looked at browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent and it was false but also bold! that means it somehow got changed too. maybe i can set it one time to true but not now.

with this post/thread/question i just begged mozilla to put an option for this in the settings menu. it has been a long time, i am using firefox since 2005 and i had to use tab mix plus otherwise i couldn't work on the computer, my hair became white without tab mix plus. i meant that i wanted to pay mozilla to implement such option in the settings, i donated some money to mozilla foundation as a message to show how thankful i am.

now firefox is nearly perfect.

History note: browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent was added to Firefox based on requests from Tab Mix Plus users after Quantum launched.

The built-in feature is not identical to the extension, but may make the extension more tolerable to use. What I mean is:

If you are on a page of links and you Ctrl+click 3 links without leaving the page, the built-in feature stacks them:

Source, 1, 2, 3

But the extension has a "latest is closest" approach, which some users prefer:

Source, 3, 2, 1

If you use the extension with the preference, it only has to move the newest tab a short distance, so it causes less sliding around of the tab bar.

only if tabs are not opened foreground. the built-in feature is enough for me, simply perfect, simply clever (if set on default).

i will never use the extension anymore, i was thankful to the developer.

this page tells everything https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/ainzny/open_tabs_next_to_current_addon_is_now_redundant/ After the addition of the browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent setting in about:config you do not need this extension anymore.

about:config: browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent to true i also spens some time to correct the tab settings in the firefox settings menu, like open tabs in background, ...

what does the first means? [X] Ctrl+Tab cycles through tabs in recently used order [X] Open links in tabs instead of new windows [ ] When you open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately [X] Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar

This change what Ctrl+Tab does when it switches tabs. If the box is checked, the "next tab" is based on when you last viewed a specific tab. If the box is not checked, the next tab is based on physical position on the tab bar.
