As of Feb, 23, 2021 all my passwords and logins are gone. I've been going in circles for 3 hours trying to get them back. I'm even more lost now. Please any help at all for my problem? My brain is mush. If someone can help please beak it down step by step. Thank you so much, Diane

Thank you FredMcD and Cor-el for your help. Turns out Firefox did an update and didn't complete. I have it set up to do my own updates. So don't understand why it did one. Found out by accident. I appreciate the time you both took to help me. I'm also very sorry for wasting your time. I will just call it a senior moment. I feel relieved and angry for wasting 2 days on this! Again, Thank you so much for trying to help me.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there? Also, open the profile folder in your file explorer.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles {web link} I use a Legacy add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

Thank you so much FredMcD for trying to help me. I appreciate all the time you took. I keep coming up empty handed. It won't even let me save new passwords. I even tried to write a few in on the actual password page, nope. It says "An error occurred while trying to save this password". It won't accept them. I have to stop for today before my neighbors hear screams coming from my home.

Use these links to create a new profile. Use this new profile as is. Is the problem still there?

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Macs: Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Firefox 80+ has a logins-backup.json file in the profile folder that can be used in case of issues with logins.json or to undo an accidental delete of a login, so you can check if you can find this file in the profile folder or in a backup.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can look at a utility to browse System Restore points to see if you can locate matching logins.json and key4.db files.
