Can't load or extract my lost tabs from jsonlz4 file. 90 megabytes worth of tabs.

Hi and thank you in advance. I am in a serious dllema here. I was just about to hire someone to do this work on upwork or fiverr or the like when I did a search and confirmed that my saved passwords are also stored in this file. I have tried Everything I can find to get my 90 megs of tabs back, which a stupid verizon hot spot network log in screen crashed and I am just about at the end of my rope. I

have been through hours and hours of fooling with this. Already tried this site, https://json-csv.com/ pro version, this site https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html and the firefox add on moz-extension://8fb59157-3fd6-43ac-982e-f27264d2874f/app/app.htm and a few other tools that are outdated or don't work on my system.

PLEASE, I will pay someone who is officially from Mozilla if necessary, I just need my tabs back.

Also, were you able to get a particular extract/list from an older session history file such as the one from the Firefox 83 update earlier this month?

Hi, your passwords are not stored in your session history file. However, cookies from that session are stored in there so that when you restore the file, you can resume where you left off.

What happens when you try the scrounger? Does the JSON get populated into the box as the first step, or does the tab hang doing that? Similarly, the Scrounge URLs button -- error message, tab hang?

To decompress the .jsonlz4 file to plain .json, you also can use a script in Firefox's Browser Console. See:

https://gist.github.com/jscher2000/4403507e33df0918289619edb83f8193

Now that will give you some enormous amount of data to work with, full of URLs. Unfortunately, the only script I have to extract the URLs is in the Scrounger (current version you tried, or the old design: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger_20180826.html).

Hi, thank you for the reply. It just loads and loads / hangs until I can't do anything else with my browser at the scrounger. The firefox add on actually froze my whole computer to the point I had to do a hard reset. I a message back from Brenden at https://json-csv.com/ and an automated email informing me that the process had failed. I paid for the pro subscription and he figured out how to extract a csv file. The only issue is that it has over 4000 rows and columns up into the triple letters, so a crazy amount, some power of 24 I'm figuring. HUGE thanks to him, I highly recommend his service as he did it within 24 hours when the automated script couldn't. However the urls are scattered across various columns. I believe that my file was corrupted somehow by that dastardly verizon hot spot that automatically opened a browser window when I tried to connect and that 'you must first log in to the network' banner pop up at the top of the screen appeared. I have been using the tabs I'm using after many many dastardly windows oh so helpful automatic resets of my machine with zero issue. Not to mention that I have a plugin called session boss which I have been using for years that also completely took a dump and utterly failed to show a single tab after this horror show took place. Is there someone who I can hire to parse or debug or repair or whatever the darn jsonlz4 file and just be bloody done with it? This is like day two and I have projects to tend to.

Thanks again

Ivan

Also I don't know how to use an older version and I'm not exactly sure what you mean on that last comment. Use an older version of firefox, somehow try to get an older jsonlz4 file, I'm not clear on that question at all.

Thanks

Ivan

I just tried to 'find all' cells in open office containing 'http' and it just about instantly crashed open office.

Hi Ivan, a couple questions about the file(s) you are working with:

(1) Are you trying to recover a file from the sessionstore-backups folder such as:

  • recovery.jsonlz4
  • recovery.baklz4
  • previous.jsonlz4
  • a file whose name is similar to upgrade.jsonlz4-20201112153044

If so, and the file isn't working, do you have one of the others from the relevant period that you could try instead?

(2) Did you decompress the .jsonlz4 to plain .json using the Browser Console script, or are you working just with the CSV file?

It doesn't sound as though the CSV file is organized enough to find what you are looking for. The .json file would be another option, but I'd be interested to know how large it is because it also might be too much for many programs to handle.
