Firefox always opens to this window which looks very suspect. I'm afraid to use it.

Firefox always defaults to this window: http://search.anysearchmanager.com whenever I open it and I can't get rid of it. I'm afraid to continue using Firefox. Should I uninstall it before I get a virus, and if so, how would I do that.

Hello Jonathan28,

See :

https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/11989-search-anysearchmanager-com-redirect-mac

Would you please do this :

Go to the Firefox menu (≡) => Preferences => Add-ons => Extensions and remove anything that looks unfamiliar or suspicious.

Next step : run malwarescans - further information can be found in this article :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. They all work differently - what one program doesn't pick up, the other might.

Especially for Mac : https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/

Also see : https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-search-anysearchmanager-com/

'Hope the above will help you get rid of the hijacker.

Hi Thank you for attempting to help. Unfortunately after following all of the instructions, including running Malwarebytes, I still have the problem. I had no extensions showing up in my Add-ons, so nothing to remove there.

The problem has also migrated to my Chrome browser so now I'm really concerned. Should I uninstall Firefox entirely? Assuming that will help? If so, where can I find instructions? I found instructions for Windows but I run a Mac.

That hijacker is a real pain the derrière .....

Would you please go over this article and see if there is anything there that you haven't tried yet (like maybe finding and removing the nuisance from your system) :

I'm on Windows myself, but just now I found this thread - when you scroll down, you'll see what solved the problem for that OP :

(this hijacker affects every browser, so it's not just a Firefox issue, but you already noticed that)
