In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

There have been changes to the way the master password works (more iterations to make the MP more secure) that can cause issues with Firefox not being able to decrypt the logins.

Do you still have a key3.db file in the profile folder ?

You can try to use the profile once with Firefox 68 esr to run some migration code, see:

No I'm not using another password program/add-on and ye the problem is still there in Safe Mode.

I don't remember but it was a few versions back, it took me a while to update. So I'll try downgrading!

Okay so i went back to 72.0.2, disconnected from the internet to prevent auto-updating, and then I'd copy my old profile, but every time I copied my old profile it would say I had to create a new profile because my old one was from a new version of firefox and something about it could be corrupted in an older version blah blah blah.

So i just copied logins.json and the key file, it didn't work.

I'm so heartbroken right now, this is so unfair!!!

None of that worked. None of the programs worked, and the script at the bottom didn't work. =(

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

That script method found via the CSV link won't work for the CSV file. And i don't understand what to do in that Json link you provided.

Also what you said to get my net to work didn't work.

NONE of those links worked either btw. None of the programs. None of the scripts.

Any more help on getting my internet to work in the downgraded version?? Atm I'm having to use Chrome, and I hate chrome!!

So downgrading to the Firefox 68.5.0 ESR brought my passwords back, and then I did this to allow my profile to be viewed in the ESR version of Firefox:

AFTER THAT, none of the backup options worked, so I had to search and search and search, for a solution to the "corrupted data" page refusing to let me connect to the internet using my old profile. Apparently, doing a hard reset from the server by pressing ctrl+Shift+R vs. just refreshing with a normal ctrl+R, did the trick to allow me back online in the ESR with my downgraded profile and passwords showing back up!

FINALLY, i set up sync in ESR and then upgraded back to the current version of Firefox and I was signed in and thanks to sync I could finally see all my passwords again in the current version of Firefox!!

You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
