Firefox wont load any sites after windows 10 update

While I dont know if these 2 things are related some strange things still happened with my firefox, version 73, 64bit.

No sites wont load, at all. Chrome Comodo, IE11, Edge work without a problem. I uninstalled many times Firefox, backed up or deleted the Mozilla folder from %appdata% folder. Still wont work. On new install it should start up but it doesnt. On one occassion it created 6 new profiles in 5 minutes. about:config cant be opened. If I close it down to reopen it I get the message that it needs to be stoped first. Wont work in safe mode either. I depended heavily on firefox for work related issues, saved passwords, saved dials and so on. All gone now.

Is there anyway of fixing this or should I abandon Firefox and go with Chrome? Im sure there is something somewhere that is broken but I cant put my finger on it.

Quite a few users have reported issues with Firefox not loading anything recently. This is usually something to do with the Windows compatibility mode feature. It's a known bug (see bug 1614885) that will soon be getting patched.

If you uncheck the Run this program in compatibility mode for and all other compatibility options on the properties window for the firefox.exe program and then restart your computer, that might fix your issue.

For a more detailed explanation, I'd recommend looking at this post by jscher2000, since he does a good job of explaining how to perform the above steps.

Hope this helps.

All boxes are already unchecked so the problem persits.

can you check if downloading the update to firefox 73.0.1 that was released just now can address your issue?

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Installed 73.0.1, it's working, can access sites but my old profile is gone. Lot's of work lost with it. :(

hi, when you type about:profiles into the firefox address bar, are you able to select your old profile there? afaik there is no situation where firefox would just delete it from a system...

Like I said in my inital post: "I uninstalled many times Firefox, backed up or deleted the Mozilla folder from %appdata% folder."

I had no other ideas to make it work again then to delete referances to it.

Is that folder available to restore from the Windows Recycle Bin? If you don't have that icon on your desktop, type Recycle in the Windows search box (the one on the Taskbar) and it should give you a button for the Recycle Bin app on the results popup.

Or if you have a backup, see this article:
