Firefox has prevented this page from automatically redirecting - WHY ???

Starting some days ago, I have been unable to use my mutual fund company website because I keep getting the above notice, but when I ALLOW, I get a grey blank page and the same notification. Stuck in a loop. I was using v68.2.0 esr. Today I have updated to v68.3.0esr, but the error continues. I don't see any cookies for the company. I don't know how to find the source of this error. If its not cookies, are there any security type add-ons that might prevent automatic redirects?

How can I authorize redirects to preclude this error?

The point at which this error begins keeps changing. Yesterday I was able to log in & get to my "home" page, but the loop started when I tried to click on any sub page (accounts, messages, etc). Today it begins after the user & password entry page and won't allow me to get to the two-factor verification entry page.

Oh, and for a while, it was not stuck in a loop, after ALLOW I could get to the page. Then it started getting stuck.

In Firefox 56+ the "Warn me when website try to redirect or reload the page" setting can no longer be found in Options/Preferences.

You can modify this pref on the about:config page to enable or disable this feature

  • accessibility.blockautorefresh

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

So I changed "accessibility.blockautorefresh to Default, True What about: services.sync.prefs.sync.accessibility.blockautorefresh which is at Default, True

Getting a blank grey page after I enter my preliminary login data. Should be on the 2nd Factor Authorization entry page.

I set services.sync.prefs.sync.accessibility.blockautorefresh to FALSE and I can get past the 2nd factor page onto my "home" page. But I can only get to one of the sub pages... others just blank grey.

So how do I figure out if this is Firefox or the website? Firefox log file somewhere? I could clear the log file then try to access the website.

services.sync.prefs.sync. prefs like services.sync.prefs.sync.accessibility.blockautorefresh specify whether to sync a specific pref to other connected devices and these are best left alone at their default value unless you use Sync and want to exclude this pref for some reason.

The accessibility.blockautorefresh preference should be set to false if you do not want to block redirects.

Both config settings are FALSE & still not able to use the website. Since the "services" one seems not to be related to the problem I will set it back to default.

I don't have ANY other devices, so anything about Synching is just confusion & complication. Updating to a new version is now complicated - I have to find the new Profile name, delete the folder contents, and copy the "old" profile contents into the folder. What a useless waste of my time.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
