New icons at address bar that keep coming back

Since one week there are some changes in the address bar. Suddenly there is a menu "page actions", and a magnification icon. And a reader view button.

What scares me is that these changes just suddenly happen, not with an upgrade. How can this happen? Does Firefox check somewhere online?

And they keep coming back! I have no control over them! That is what scares me.

While these are nice additions, I do not want them. I want to tab to the next filed directly.

I try to get rid of those things but no matter what I do they come back. How can I shut these down for good?

I have been a Firfox user since the beginning and I love it!

Any help would be appreciated.

Right-click the icons that you don't want to see and use Remove from Address Bar. Not all can be removed that easily but see if that works for the ones that you don't want there.

As far as Page Actions, it is possible to edit the listing of what appears in the drop-down thru about:config. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox browser.pageActions. is the pref to Search for in about:config .

The page actions icon and its containing items (take a screenshot and the star and others) are present for quite a few releases. If you didn't have them before then you may still have updated somehow. The zoom indicator is only present if the zoom isn't 100% (i.e. you have manually zoomed the page. The reader icon is present when you are on a page that obeys the requirements for Reader view. Some icons can be moved to the page action drop-down list and others can be added via the right-click context menu in the drop-down list.

Thank you all for your time and effort!

When I remove those icons via the standard ways of doing so then they will return.

I will read once again, I think I missed something.

Thank you again!
