Every time I open firefox it asks me to sign in to my profile. When I do, I have lost all of my bookmarks etc.

I then go into about:profiles and have to delete multiple profiles that have appeared and set my original one to default, which works fine and i have all my bookmarks back. However as soon as I switch my macbook off and on again, I am back to square one and have to delete old profiles and set my old one to default. This is incredibly frustrating.

Hi douglasfleming6, to clarify what you see when you start Firefox after a system restart, is it the Profile Manager dialog? This is what it looks like on Windows:

Are you able to Quit and restart Firefox normally until you shut down and restart your Mac? I wonder whether some kind of cleaning software may be removing a critical file at shutdown or startup (the installs.ini and/or profiles.ini files that store your active profile list and designated default).

Hit jscher2000, thanks for your response. It is a mac that I am using so the message I see every time I start up firefox is attached. I can close and start up firefox with my proper profile once I have set it as the default, but as soon as I close down or restart my mac it comes up with that message again when I try to reopen it, and there is a new profile when I go to about:profiles in the search bar. I was also thinking that there may be some critical file issue upon restart, but I did completely remove and reinstall firefox which did not resolve the problem.

I have the same issue. It seems like every time Firefox sends an update, which seems more and more frequent now...I am asked to create a profile or quit. No in between. I can log in to my Firefox Account but I've lost all of my saved settings from before. One time my bookmarks were not there. Luckily, this time they are there. I am really starting to think I should just migrate over to Chrome and be done with Firefox. I've had to waste so much time dealing with Firefox accounts and profiles and then lose all the bookmarks over and over and over again. I have to dig through my C Drive to find a saved json file (whatever that is) to even get my old bookmarks back. I am not tech support. I don't work in IT. I don't have time to google and YouTube every issue. Firefox doesn't have customer support, it relies on its consumers to do the job its tech people should be doing. Great ecosystem we live in.

Hi GUBison, Firefox shouldn't create a new installation or profile with each update. Something is going wrong there.

Once you are in a new profile, you could try switching profiles this way:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have another profile named default or default-release or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Does your Firefox let you do that?

I am on firefox ESR in a debian's computer. when i launched firefox this morning, my profile was gone. I resynchronized, but it didn't load my profile. When I go to "about profile" none of the profiles offered matches mine. What should I do?
