Normally Firefox can install either under the 32-bit programs path or the 64-bit programs path. If you have Firefox under both, then you may see two installations in the default program chooser. Probably only one of those needs to exist, but which one? Hmm... could you check the Target of your regular Firefox shortcut? Either:

• Right-click a desktop shortcut, then click Properties
• Right-click a Firefox icon pinned to the Taskbar then right-click Mozilla Firefox, then click Properties

By default, Windows will show the Shortcut tab. The Target line normally looks like:

• 64-bit: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
• 32-bit: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

If you have had Firefox installed for a long time, the 64-bit version can be in the 32-bit directory. That doesn't hurt anything, but can be a bit confusing.

Before proceeding, just in case: if you run Microsoft Office (local install), change your default browser to Internet Explorer or Edge before removing any installations of Firefox. If you remove your default browser, bad things happen with links in Office.

So once you know the path of the Firefox you normally run, check the other path to see whether it has an unwanted Firefox. In a subfolder there, you'll find the uninstaller. That's either:

• 64-bit: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe
• 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe

Presumably after uninstalling the unwanted Firefox, Windows will only show one Firefox available to make your default browser and everything will be cleared up. Or Windows won't show any Firefox and you'll need to re-run the installer.

Sorry no help. firefox only installed as 64 bit. Lets try another way. When I try to install dashlane extension I get "not default browser" and I answer to have Firefox as default. The extension installs and work fine until I leave Firefox. When I return to Firefox the extension is gone. ????

Firefox shouldn't lose track of installed extensions. Is it getting disabled? You can check on the Add-ons page. Either:

• Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
• type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then scan down the right side to see whether Dashlane is listed. Disabled extensions cluster at the bottom. If you find it, can you re-enable it?

If there is no evidence of Dashlane at all:

Is your Firefox starting up in the same profile each time? A Firefox profile is a different settings/data folder. To see what profile your Firefox is currently running, you can type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter to load it.

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

(To be clear, I do not recommend deleting/removing anything on this page.)

If you have other profiles listed on this page (there is a huge heading and a separate little table for each one), you can check whether Dashlane is in there by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

That will open a new window. If it isn't what you were using during your previous session, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you were using, maybe: back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.
